That is exactly how you are supposed to hit, you get those marks from having good form when tackling.

Head up, eyes forward watching were you are leading, exploding into the ball carrier. The black marks come from being low coming into the hit and exploding up into the facemask/jaw of the ball carrier. Its called popping them in the jaw. It's what you want to do everytime you hit someone.

Its a beautiful thing when done correctly, not many do it right anymore.

Yah, people must not realize how easily a black rubber-coated facemask will easily mark a surface.
