Splashing FA money on a safety doesn't cut it for me.  Those are the guys you draft

You must not have paid attention to our safety play last year, flat out terrible. This guy is young, decent against the pass, and really good against the run. He fills an immediate need and can step right in and play. We should appreciate this pick, IMHO.

decent against the pass? That's probably generous.  Bottom 3rd out of all at the position.

He was the 9th best FA this signing period. I think we got a good one. Time will tell

we just overpaid for Horn.  That's not helping with my thoughts on him.

Frankly, I think Dan should of gone all in on overpaying for bodies on the defensive front.  He got outbid already for the Eagles guy.  Little else.  Basically what he did last year for the O.

Lots of options at Edge and DT in the draft. I suspect we will sign a couple of each at that position. "There are only three safeties with five or more interceptions, five or more tackles for loss and 15 or more passes defended since 2023, according to Sports-Reference.com: Jessie Bates III, Kyle Hamilton and Tre'von Moehrig. He also totaled a career-high 104 tackles in 2024, and he's incredibly durable, playing in 66 of a possible 68 games in four seasons despite leading the Raiders in defensive snaps (4,066) since being drafted in 2021. Moehrig, who turns 25 on June 16, could potentially level up while playing with more talented teammates. "

Moehrig is young and has potential but the Raiders let him walk and turned around and signed Chinn who is only 2 years older for $16 million.

He's going to have to be really good here to justify the money.

I dunno if I'd put much faith in the judgement skills of the raiders fo

    • Reading tea leaves:  The draft is pretty solid at DT (3-4 DE).  I don't think Wharton, and Brown change the fact that we could draft one. Pat Jones does not eliminate a need at Edge. I think we will draft a pure pass rusher.  We are still razor thin at CB.  Getting Jackson back was huge for us, however.  I am not sure how much they like Evans and Bartholomew, but both (especially Evans) played pretty well down the stretch.  Good enough depth?  Conspiracy theory:  Draft Will Johnson and play Jackson at nickel.  It seems to me that we now have 2 Strong Safeties.  We need a free safety or two. I heard nothing about TE or WR today.  Does that mean we will draft those positions?  I really like about 4 Tight Ends in this draft, maybe 5.  WR?  I think the draft is more of a gamble, but I am wondering about TMac right now. The focus in free agency on defense makes sense.  Evero has types and in free agency, you can match a skill set to your needs with more precision than the draft.  The focus was on stopping the run, and with the exception of Wharton, every defensive player excels in that area. Pass rush is still a concern, imo.
    • If McMillan played for Purdue, no one on here would be interested in him.
    • So with cap space, Jaycee’s deal created 9m in space, Tuttle restructure created 3m in space.    need to see the first year of each deal to see where they stand. Team had around 29-30m in space for today’s deals.
