Panthers’ Moore has no control issues

By DARIN GANTT - The (Rock Hill) Herald

SPARTANBURG —

With a week of training camp under his belt, Carolina Panthers quarterback Matt Moore is as sure of his hold on the starting job as he is ahead of the competition.

That hasn’t silenced external doubts regarding his pedigree or stopped speculation about when Jimmy Clausen might take over. But none of that has fazed Moore.

“Yeah, there’s no doubt in my mind (he’s the starter),” Moore said Wednesday. “I feel good. It’s been a good camp, and we’re just looking to build on what we started.” As simple as that.

Moore has taken the high road on the Clausen talk, essentially making the rookie a non-story in camp. Clausen is here, and likely a significant part of the future, but Moore has made the job his through his performance on the field.

“He looks great,” receiver Kenny Moore said. “He’s real comfortable, making the right reads. Everybody’s following him on offense. He’s done a great job of that. Guys are following him; they want him to be the guy, and they’re excited about having him back there.”

Improving the passing game has been an emphasis all offseason, with Moore at the forefront of that effort. He said he’s been encouraged by what he’s seen.

Already in camp, there are subtle differences in the passing game: more roll-outs, moving the pocket — schemes that take advantage of the edge in athleticism Moore has over former starter Jake Delhomme. The core principles of the offense are the same, but Moore’s abilities allow the coaches to use pages from the playbook that have gone untouched for years.

“I don’t know; there’s just a lot more on the plate, you know what I mean?” Moore said when asked what was new about this year’s camp for him. “Going in a year ago you might get a couple plays in practice over and over and over again. But now, being in the situation we’re in, the choice of play selection is so much larger, being the No. 1 guy. That’s the only difference. You’ve still got to know all of it and be ready for all of it.”

Are you just trying to get in on the action of "I'm ready for the season" posts? They make up maybe about precisely 63% of the posts in this forum now.

yes but reading that article made it to where I posted here and not there. and the fact that I was the first to reply was another reason for said post.

Yeah, at least Armanti isn't breaking into businesses and mowing his lawn during thunderstorms.

If Moore was still in Dallas or in NY or NE he would be the next coming of Johnny U. I'm not sure how the season will play out as far as wins and loses go but I'm very positive that Moore is going to play amazingly. His size, style and abilities remind me a lot of both Breese and Romo. With the offensive line and running game already there, this offense is going to suprise a lot of teams. Too bad the defense just looks to be too inexperienced or I would really have a lot of high expectations on this team right now.
