Armanti Edwards....

I understand the thought of the lockout, but I am not so sure that we will miss more than 3-5 games. (yes I know the FO knows much more than me on this one)

Personally, I just don't like taking ANY project in the 2nd round.

He wasn't drafted in the second round, they just traded a future 2nd round pick to move up. You can call that a 2nd round draft pick, but technically he was a third rounder.

Who knows if he'll stick and make a huge impact? I certainly don't, but I will say that 4-5 days of training camp and at a new position is insufficient time to make a true determination. Hell, they're still giving Jarrett a chance who was a true second round pick and has always played WR (not considered a project). It's been long enough to call Jarrett a bust, but not long enough to call AE a bust. This isn't being an ASU homer, this is being logical.

BTW, most draft picks are projects. There are very few college players that can go right into the NFL and start right away. Even right now, Bradford hasn't been called the starter--though he probably will be. I think the gap from college to pro is the largest in football.

true. Even high picks are mostly projects. A Peppers or Beason is a rare find. Can't expect to find one of those each year.

Randle EL didn't start a single game as a receiver in 2002. And while he was QB at Indiana, he also played receiver his first season and was a KR/PR for 3 of the 4 years there. I think he had just a little bit more experence coming in than AE.

True, but he had 47 catches as a rookie. He was productive.

I think everyone agrees that the lack of "experence" is what is plaguing Edwards right now. No doubt he has the talent, but the on-the-field results are probably a long ways away.

He wouldn't make the squad today as only a WR. He has to be able to get the punt returns job.

Well the truth is none of our WRs would make the team right now except Moore and maybe Jarrett. Its just the second week of camp.

Kinda harsh to deactivate such a dynamic player on the field just cause he cant do something he has only had 2 weeks to learn. If anything they should be developing him at WR not ST. We have guys that will lose roster spots if Edwards is successful at PR but we dont have many options if he is not successful at WR.

Maybe with Punts but not as a WR. He seems very natural at WR. PR is a art in its self. Some people can do it others cant. Just like Capt. was good at PR but not at KR.

I agree with you pantherfan and it's true that he was productive in his rookie season but Edwards has only had 5 days of camp. Let's at least let AE have a rookie season too before we start the comparisons.

I'm sorry... a college QB drafted to play WR having a hard time with catching the ball is no surprise to me.

And what's funny is how everyone assumed this kid would transition with no problems.

Oh... look... here's what I said about that weeks ago...

What we need to do, is trade him to a team that needs a QB. Let him get his career going, and get something for pissing away a draft pick for him.

I can see us using AE in a few ways to make him worth a roster spot. One easy play to include him on would be some type of motion play from the slot position to run a reverse like we used to do with smitty once a game.

he needs to get the ball in his hand someway to be an asset, he has the ability, hopefully the coaching staff can help him develop and setup situations for him to succeed.

arent you just the bees knees

everyone just give it time, the whole team is young and it is going to take time for everyone to gel. if there is one thing i trust the panthers front office on, it is draft picks. yes they have messed up a few (who hasnt), but i just feel like they have to really see something special in him to trade away a second rounder.
