The best scenario is to tell him he's injured and put him on IR so he cant come anywhere near the field.

Best case scenario right now would be for the team as a whole and for AE individually would be:

Go into the season with Smitty, Jarrett, Moore, LaFell, Wright, and AE as the WR depth chart... in that order... Jarrett, LaFell, and Wright are your better blocking WRs, so they stay ahead of him in most situations, and Moore will be the starting slot man...

Let AE focus on returns (much like Smitty did his rookie season) and some spot duty on 3 and 4 wide sets... occasionally in a trick formation like the Wildcat or an end around... and that is it...

If we throw too much at him at one time, and run him into the ground from multiple positions, he won't ever grasp any of them to a full capacity... We need to give him time to adapt, get his legs, and get his frame more ready for the tasks at hand...

Then, maybe halfway through the season (or sooner should he show himself capable), work him into more passing sets as the slot man... Let him run some normal routes... Let him run block down the field some...

By the end of the year, he will be in a position to be the player he can be, and the player we need him to be, if we go that route instead of throwing him directly into the fire...

AE had one decent return, but other than that, I didn't see anything that merits him a WR/PR roster position last night. In fact, I saw quite a few dropped passes when he was running routes.

The guy is a QB. And not a bad one at that (based on stats and some of the college vids I've watched).

I think the FO and people are deluding themselves that he can play WR. "Give it time" is a crazy notion when there are plenty of other WRs out there who can/could potentially do a better job sitting on other teams practice squads.

Again (as I've said in other posts), we need to work out a trade for a team thin at QB and get some help at other areas. Especially special teams (god they looked bad last night).

LOL @ a lot of the same people slamming AE being the same people who have made 'This is Dwayne Jarrett's Year" threads every year...

To be honest with you, I wasn't wowed by what he did last night, and I wasn't really let down either. I didn't expect him to come in looking like Steve Smith... He's got work to do and even when he has the fundamentals of the position down, he's gonna have to get the little things - the nuances, down. Gruden mentioned how when AE lines up he said he recognizes all the reads and such, like he did at QB, but then he realizes he's lined up at WR and has to get off the press.

Some good I saw last night was that quickness in small spaces and his ability to get open. But, along with that came slipping on the wet field and although he got open his routes may not have been as sharp as he allowed defenders back in the play as the ball got to him. Additionally, the broadcast crew also mentioned that if Gettis hadn't ran into AE on the one PR that he would've gotten the corner and possibly ran it back. I see some things to build on and he did look good a few times, he's just got to get the small things down.

He was thrown to 9 times last night. That tells me they're either forcing him the ball even when he's not open, or he was getting open. I haven't watched the game again, but no one got that many balls thrown their way. (He did play 3 quarters at wr tho)

Another thing I will add is Hurney had mentioned recently how well AE adapts and learns after he makes a mistake. I will be very interested to see how he improves after some of last nights mistakes... And for someone's ealier remark, yes, AE should be the 3rd string qb also.

AE and Appalachian State beat a Flacco led Deleware 49 - 21 for ASU's 3rd consecutive National Championship in 2007.

Other than that he looked pretty lost.

Exactly what I would expect from a project WR rookie.

If he is fail at the end of next season we can start complainng.

I'm OK with that sentiment when you take a flyer with a supplimental 6th round pick in the draft you otherwise wouldn't have had.

Once again the Panthers have traded a future 2nd round (read higher ie 1st rounder for Everett Brown) pick for a 3rd round pick today.

Edwards needs to produce now.

Not having a 2nd in 2011 is gonna hurt if Edwards ain't producing today.

You can be mad at the Panthers for taking him where they did, but that doesn't change the fact that a quarterback isn't going to come in at make an immediate impact as a receiver and returner.
