I'm actually a fan of the Armanti pick, but I don't know why this is surprising. A year ago the man was playing quarterback -- it's going to take him some time to learn any new position. I think he'll get there, but it's going to take a while.

I really didn't expect to see much of Edwards this year anyway.

Shelton was a legitimate 2nd round pick though. If the Panthers hadn't drafted him, someone else would.

Edwards was a 4th/5th round pick that the Panthers traded next year's 2nd for.

Agreed, they did jump the gun on it. I thought for sure he would be around in the 3rd or 4th rounds. Hopefully he'll pick it up.

Conditioning is a much bigger factor at WR, he will take a while to get it together. Edwards will take a year to get WR down.

That's actually a really good comparison. Smitty made his mark on ST before anybody gave him a chance at WR. Edwards and Smitty do share a lot of the same attributes especially when you look at the size of both players. Edwards sheer athletic ability alone should get him through the fundamentals to earn a spot on the 53 man roster. I like the kid, just was making the comparison over the hope I had for Shelton back in the day too.

Anyone who thinks that the Panthers drafted Edwards and thought he would make an immediate impact is kidding themselves. They drafted him based on potential -- and you don't see that potential fulfilled in just five days of training camp.
