Armanti Edwards....

No offense, but that sounds rather homeristic...

Gamble played at one of the top colleges for football... Peppers is pretty much a freak of nature, and an unrivaled talent at his position...

Armanti did neither of these things... He is an athletic talent that was in a system and conference which made him shine...

Need I remind you that Dameyune Craig still holds the NFL record for passing yards in a sanctioned event? Whatever happened to him?

All I am saying is that I think reaching for Edwards might not pay off like taking Gilyard would have...

As I have hinted at elsewhere, I am tired of constantly building for tomorrow, and want to win now...

All that said, I still think we are going to surprise a lot of people this season, and could be a contender if the pieces fall into place right... I hope nothing but the best for all of our players... Armanti included!

I'll be honest, I always thought Edwards sounded a bit slow as well, but from what I hear he did very well academically at App. I've also heard he's very, very shy, which I think has led him to sound "slow" to the media.

I really think this is one of those cases where you can't judge the book by the cover. As Sloth pointed out, he's encountered plenty of adversity and overcome it, as well.

I'm not saying I wouldn't have liked Tate or Gilyard, but Edwards is one the team right now and that's the guy I'll be rooting for.

This is going to sound bad, but as has been hinted at, Armanti doesn't sound like the most intelligent person when he speaks...

Football has a lot of mental aspects to it...

I firmly believe he has the physical tools, but I am not sold on the mental side of things...

This was one reason I held Gilyard in such high regards... He went through a rough point in his life and bounced back from it... He speaks with intelligence and you can tell that he is both confident in his abilities and wants to prove he can be the best... Smitty has those same qualities...

Muffing a few punts, at this point, is not a huge obstacle for Edwards... but where I will be looking is how he handles the adversity and if he still shows some swagger or confidence in the times when he doesn't do so well...

Some people are not comfortable in front of a camera and he is one of those people. I'd say he's got the mental aspect of football after playing quaterback so successfuly even if it was at App. I think most of us are reading too much into dropped punts. He's new to it so give him a chance to learn.

You could say the same for Armanti...his dad was thrown in jail before his senior year in high school and still isnt out. So Armanti has the same qualities that your talking about. Ive heard that Armanti about quit football for good when his dad went to jail.

Didn't Armanti graduate college in 3 years? I think he's plenty smart enough and plenty athletic enough, but he just wasn't ready for the massive amount of running that WR's have to do in TC. Just from watching some of these short video clips from Panthers.com, it seems pretty obvious to me that, at least some of his dropped passes are happening simply because he's tired and loses focus.

I'll say it again...just let the kid learn how to play WR, and worry about all that other stuff later. There are already some pretty talented return men on this roster.

the kid has experienced leading and winning, consistently, and on some big stages other than just socon.

he stuck to his guns when higher tier college teams wanted to convert him to DB

he is an athletic freak

lay off the kid and give him a chance to do his thing. how many third rounders get this much pressure?

..and I have to add that by judging the guy's football intelligence by considering it the same as his IQ which by the way you judged from a few random rookie interviews is just plain ******* stupid.

Actually considering that he got his degree in 3.5 years in graphic design that's mighty amazing. To do it while being the starting quarterback for almost his entire time at App is really remarkable. The work and portfolio requirements for graphic design at that school are among some of the toughest in the country, with many students bailing out in the junior year. My college roommate there was a graphic design major and one of the most creative and intellectually nimble people I have ever met. It took him five years to get his degree and he almost walked away from it on numerous occasions.

Yes, Armanti has a shy streak and he hasn't had the camera time that many athletes from larger schools have had.

Lastly, never ever think someone is dumb because they speak slowly and carefully. The biggest idiots you'll ever meet are generally right royal chatterboxes.

I'm a UVA fan (God help me) and don't care one whit for App State and am one of the chicken littles on the board, so no.. no homerism here.

I brought up Gamble and Peppers because neither sounds too articulate when on camera, but both are able to grasp a playbook and play at a high level.

Gilyard came from a system (as did Pike) that grossly over-inflates passing numbers. Cincy also wilted like a flower once they played an upper-tier opponent in their bowl.

Half the posters who are bashing on the competition Edwards faced want us to go back in time and draft Flacco from that powerhouse on the East coast, Delaware. Yeah, the guy who couldn't unseat Tyler Palko at Pitt and ran to an easier conference so he could start.

I hear you about wanting to win now, but I'm not sure that's in the cards. We'll see.

I feel like they took it a little easier on him because he was the starting quarterback...
