I mean if these tweets were accurate Jason Carter would have been our stud #2 WR for the past few years.

..actually if Carter had not ruined his knee in a preseason game he may have had the chance to live up to the hype the first time he got the chance to suit up. His first/only year he shined in camp (2008) he got a chance to make the field and got hurt. His first year on the practice squad (2007) he did not camp with the Panthers and thus there were no tweets from camp (not to mention there was no such thing as twitter). Last year he played for the Argonauts after the Panthers cut him during camp because he really did not make any noise at all.

He went to one in a half camps. one of which he was a stud in and blew his knee in the first quarter of the first preseason game on like his first touch or something returning a kick. how the fvck do you know he would not have made the roster were it not for that injury?

do you have a clue about anything you post?

our first game is almost a week away... that is the reality

its not going to be 2008 good, you cant have that with all the rookies we got on the team

our first game is in September.

The offense goes through the OL and RBs and Carolina is as good as it gets. When Moore stepped in and the offense started clicking again....it began to resemble the 08 offense last season. Run and get Smitty the ball.....oh, and don' turn it over.

Any rookie stepping up on offense imo would be a bonus. Pending Moore reamins to be the same guy we have seen and everyone is healthy, I don't see why they won't be similar to the 08 offense and tail end of 09 one.

Actually, you are. Surprise!

No, our offense isn't all out there. That was my point. Smith is our WR corp until someone proves otherwise.

that would be like only running Goodson and Sutton and then talking about what a great run D we look to have this year.

that was a lot of typing to really say nothing. The Carter hype and we heard it multiple years....turned into nothing. What was the point of your post? That the hype COULD have been true.....but nothing ever happened but since it COULD have happened I should buy into TC hype?

Let the secondary shutdown some preseason squads and then I will buy what some are selling. A couple days into TC and shutting down Edwards, Jarrett, LaFell is too early for me.... Not sure how someone can have a problem with that unless they just want to find a problem with my post.

Stats and rankings only mean a lot if they coincide with your argument on this site. It is easy to cast doubt on any stat or ranking if you want to. The numbers do/don't lie depending on what side you are arguing.

That is not the issue here. The issue is that without Thomas Davis, some shuffling has happened and looks like it is gelling so far. Also some young DB's are showing promise in coverage less than a year removed from being scalded daily on this site.

What has been reported is positive. Its good news. Can any idiot cast doubt by saying that our WR's and QB's are young? Sure. Any moron can do that. That is why an opinion similar to that is not profound (a.k.a. unnecessary).

There is no kool aid. There is no optimism. There are merely reports that the db's are blanketing the receivers fairly consistently and some random sourpuss's "opinion" that this would not be the case had we better receivers on the field.

You see, according to one Panther fan using the handle CRA its not so much that our top rated pass defense is looking good, its more that our young passing offense can't properly test the passing defense. Therefore, there is no reason to look favorably on the reports from camp. Conversely however there is now reason to not only be bummed about the young, inept offense but now the top rated pass defense as well. This in spite of the facts that the high ranking from last season was judged against other teams, not our "weak and young" team and there is no sane reason to believe the pass defense would not look every bit as good out there if CRA had a higher opinion of our passing attack.

In essence, one poster's opinion of passing offense directly effects the execution of our passing defense. If he thought the offense was better, the defense would automatically play better and vice versa.

Yes, it is quite ridiculous.

You are like a completely different person with Jake Delhomme off of this team. It's seriously like night and day. Last offseason you were a whiny, negative bitch. Now you post insightful, well thought out, rational posts. I applaud you.

So, unless Smith is out there the offense sucks?

You said that the defense should look good because of the offense. Just what were you suggesting? Now you are saying it is because Smith out there.

Jake and the support behind him bothered me quite a bit.

never said nor implied that. Never said the offense sucked and again I expect it to be good. The passing game does take a huge hit back without him involved. This is a running team though so the offense can still be good.

Only thing I said is that Smitty being out hurts evaluating the secondary from a coverage aspect b/c they are not going up against proven talentm (rookies and backup WR to date).

Defense should look good b/c it is early in camp and they should be ahead. Secondary should also look good in addition to that b/c they are having to cover rookie WRs and unproven WRs only at this point.

if you two can't grasp that concept or disagree with those thoughts in this post....you are simply looking to argue imo.

So the passing game isn't any good at the moment because the secondary is doing well?

Seriously, I am trying to grasp what you are saying. Are they both bad? Is one bad? You are trying to give an opinion while being neutral, which isn't working well. Just which side is not good enough?

It is also worth saying that we have two rookies at WR and no Rookie CBs at this point. Our CBs should be well ahead of the Rooks. At this point though I think Smith not being out there is a non factor. Its not like they will roll coverage or anything complex. I will be one on one. Smith more then likely will beat his man more time then not but it dose not make any of our other WRs better at this point.

the discussion is about how the secondary is expected to play this year based on what people have seen.

You think the Carolina passing attack is an average NFL passing attack with Steve Smith out of the equation? You feel comfortable in saying the secondary is going to shut people down b/c of watching them defend rookies and Jarrett as the basis for the comment? Not to mention the pass rush is still a question mark and what that means come live football?

I am saying it is too early to make claims about the secondary and how stong they will be in coverage based on TC alone thus far. It is early. The competition they are facing from a passing aspect is weak right now by NFL standards as well as the pass rush question marks still leaves too much in the air for me.......

He's saying that it's neat that our secondary is looking good, but to temper it a little because:

1. They're Defense and typically ahead of the offense right now

2. They're not going against Smith and Kenny Moore on his best day isn't anywhere near Smith

3. They better be looking good against 2 rookie WRs (one a converted QB) and Jarrett.

The secondary IS hard to evaluate right now.
