OR, maybe the teams couldn't pass against the Panthers and ran against them instead? It goes both ways.

They were also a top 10 scoring defense last year, so they were sure doing something right...especially since they were constantly being put in shitty situations because of all the INT's. It's no coincidence that they started looking more like the 2003 Superbowl defense after Moore took over at QB and stopped the offensive bleeding.

Yeah there are no questions that are answered yet and it will be quite some time before we get any of them answered much less all.

For the record some posters here will never get any answers based on the fact that they believe nothing they hear that hints to the positive and thus try to show everyone how smart they are by throwing up an obvious yet unpopular case against the observations so kindly reported. It would be pretty funny if it were not so pathetic.

This is bull poo. Our pass defense was top notch last year. All other factors aside, it was clear to everyone who paid attention that we were a tough team to pass against. Marshall is absolutely a legit #2 corner, and Gamble/Marshall is considered to be a very solid CB tandem around the league. And the Godfrey-hating is just ridiculous at this point. He started all but three games on one of the best pass defenses in the NFL and played lights out towards the end of the season.

Yeah it's not a matter of inflated stats or poor competition or whatever-if you actually go back and watch the games, that pass defense was very tight the last half or so of the season. Quarterbacks generally had very small windows to throw to, the defense swarmed to the ball, and the execution was just top notch overall. They were producing turnovers like crazy as well.

His point was that you have been negative on EVERY comment, post, fact for about the past two years.

saying it is too early to be making statements about guys 6 days in....isn't being a negative nancy. I also have told people bashing Jarrett the same thing in multiple post over the past couple days.

I am simply willing to talk positives and negatives. Not everyone the huddle likes to hear both. I try to be more of a realist than an optimist. I am not negative on every issue. I am just not afraid to be negative.

Another one of those who uses "realist" and "pessimist" as interchangable.

People mentioned how the back 7 has looked strong in camp...you immediately chime in with reasons to discount this and provide a negative view.

You have the right to be optimistic or pessimistic....just don't call yourself realist. Your view is no more "realistic" as somone who sees the silver lining rather than the dark cloud.

I know you don't. but I do, because it means that they were better than 28 other teams in passing Defense. and there is nothing you can say that will change that.

It means statistically they were ranked better than 28 other teams. Other things factor into that ranking than just how good the secondary was. They did a good job last year but had too many hole/weakness for me to say only 3 secondaries were legitimately better.

You could make the EXACT same correlation and use the EXACT same logic about any stat in football.

so you are saying the fact Steve Smith is hurt and that they are shutting down rookies/Jarrett isn't a point that should be considered while boasting how good they look?

IMO, that is a fact that has to be addressed during the praise. Too early for some of the claims people around here are making.....

The first two games in that 5 game streak were pretty leaky. We had 5 INTs against the Bucs but we let him into the redzone 3-4 times on those INTs. Brady just embarrassed us it was like the defense just rolled over. He had passes underneath completely uncontested.

No, I am not saying anything.

All that can be said is that the back 7 has looked good so far....that is all.

Would they look just as good if Smitty were there? No one knows.

I am not drawing any conclusions about anything yet. You really don't know what you have until the season starts.

I will defer to make ANY judgements until then.

However, you immediately assume they are not that good....because, that is the opinion that you want to have.

Like I said...to each his own.

Just don't confuse realism with pessimism.

and all I said is the starting back 7 SHOULD look good b/c of the WR talent they are facing. I have a problem with people boasting about what they will do simply based on 6 days of TC. I simply say it is too early.....and give some possible reasons why people might want to hold off.
