David Gettis?

Yes, he's a big, tall and fast receiver. 6-3/6-4 and 215 pounds - he can run a 4-3/4-4. He's got nice jumping ability and body control as well. Decent - good hands as well. He's a total package receiver, he just has to put it all together.

He's very raw though, He has a good head on his shoulders and should pick up the playbook quickly. Decent route runner with the ability to improve a bunch in that regards. Reason he was picked so late in the draft is he never put it together in College, and wasn't all that impressive at Baylor despite his size and speed. However he was playing for Baylor and they didn't throw a whole bunch till his last year there.

I'm pulling for him. He could be a real threat to score from anywhere on the field. He's got the speed to stretch the field and the size and hops to be used in the redzone.

You are right on one thing...Baylor didn't throw a lot because of their running qb...but he went out hurt last year and had to go with the backup who couldn't run or throw so guys like gettis suffered. Gettis should have gone to Texas Tech where they like to throw it all the time then he would have been better known coming out.

Gettis either makes the 53 man roster, or he is playing for another team this year. There is no way someone with his upside will clear waivers and make it to the PS. As of now, Smith, Moore, LaFell, Edwards, and Wright are locks to make the team (although since Moore was a bubble guy coming into camp, he cannot let down at all, and must also produce in the preseason games), and we'll likely carry six receivers since one will be a ST specialist...instead of our usual five.

So that leaves one opening available (I really cannot see them keeping seven WR with all the ST guys that will take up roster spots), and that will likely come down to either Jarrett or Gettis. IMO, this preseason is Jarrett's last shot to stand out, not just play ok, but significantly up his game. So, if Jarrett does not clearly separate himself (and by all reports thus far, he is being outplayed by both LaFell and Moore, which works against him), and if Gettis does everything right (like work hard, be attentive in meetings, learn the playbook, etc.), I think the team will opt for Gettis' upside over Jarrett's unrealized potential.

call it a lost. trade dj for a 5th rounder.and keep gettis.

Even as much of a DJ supporter that I am, and as much as I still believe he will be a good weapon this year for us there's not a team in the league that would give up a ham sandwich for him....

I think it may be awhile until we take another USC reciever in the draft. Or at least in the 2nd round

There could be a couple of good ones in the next 3-4 drafts.....Ronald Johnson is going to tear it up this year and then any combination of Ambles, Woods, Prater has the skill set to be NFL studs. We may get the trio of Farmer, Blackwell and Arnet next year as well.....

I was just talking about how our last two WR 2nd round draft picks from SC havent exactly worked out.
