David Gettis?

How has he looked in camp. I havent heard anything about him.

Still early...you're going to like this guy. If the Panthers QBs are just half way decent then Gettis will be just fine. You have to remember, he played at Baylor and their QB Griffin is a Vince Young type...run first and throw later.

Only things I've heard on him from camp have been from Fox himself.

On the team's young wide receivers: Brandon LaFell and David Gettis are both improving every day. They've got good skill sets - size, speed and quickness. Again, they're just learning but they've looked very good so far.

He needs to impress to get a job. I see us keeping Smith, Moore, Jarrett, Edwards, Lafell and Wallace Wright. Unless he can be a special teams stud like Wright I don't see him taking his spot. I really can't see Moore or Jarrett being cut.

Its time for you guys to give up on Jarrett...Lafell , Gettis and Smith sounds real sweet to me. Lafell and Gettis both are tall with good size speed and can stretch the field.

I can see Jarrett being cut, so long as LaFell proves himself capable of filling Moose's role and Moore can play the slot (or alternate every now and again with Smitty in the slot).

I think the team drafted Gettis because he is extremely fast for his size, and they knew he'd be a bit of a project. I don't think they're going to get rid of him just yet.

His size and speed alone should put him ahead of Wright...and we all know Jarrett's situation. So, from my perspective he is fighting to be that 5th wide-out against Martin. Moore, LaFell, Edwards and of course Smith should make the team.

Also, this is like the 4th thread bout' Gettis in a week. Search before posting. :)

The only thing I don't like about Gettis is that he should have gone to a different college..lol..not one with a Vince/Vick styled QB. I'm a big Gettis fan and I really wanted the Texans to take him because I think he is going to be great...good head on his shoulders too. If the Panthers put him on the practice squad he will be scooped up by another team.

Hate to break this to anyone who thinks that the Panthers will get rid of Wright for anyone else, he was signed for ST's. He is a lock to make the team, he will be the 6th WR on the team.

Smith, Lafell, Moore and Edwards should all make the team, More then Likely Jarrett will also make the team.

That's Smith, Jarrett, Lafell, Moore, Edwards, Wright....

I would find it surprising to see them cut, Jarrett (although I wouldn't mind it)

So more then likely Gettis, unless he blows up will be stashed on the PS...unless Carolina feels someone would ****** him up. In that case they could very well carry 7 wr's next season...

Gettis will be around for this season at least. As mentioned above, he was drafted being known as a project. With the right coaching and experience, I can see him being a very big threat down the field and over the top. His combination of size and speed is something that is rare, but needs grooming which will be the focus of the coaching staff this season. With an upside as big as his, it could really come back to hurt the Panthers if they were to place him on PS so early.

Also, I think Carolina will hold onto more receivers than they normally have in the past. Lots of our WR core are unknowns and this season will be a trial to see which 5 deserve a spot for the future.

You think Charly Martin has a better shot at making the team than Wallace Wright?

smitty is not getting any younger...if I'm the Panthers I stick with Gettis and not P Squad him....you keep the youngster with potential and release the underachievers like Jarrett.

Well, I'll admit I don't know a lot about either, but I know Wright wasn't the only guy we signed to improve our special teams and there can only be so many openings to help us out just for that. Neither are that special (Wright & Martin), but I was basically saying that Charley has had the better camp so far and will probably be Gettis' biggest competition. ;) That's all.
