Or like he did against real defenses Notre Dame played' date=' he is tentative to pull the trigger on the long ball resulting in a ton of check downs....[/quote']

Is that a bad thing? Pass happy NFL today equals teams building strong defenses against the deep ball tomorrow equals consistant short passing and strong rushing game for teh win. Provided you have a QB who can hit the long pass when defenses adapt to the short game, you've got yourself a winner there in about two years (which is when we should really be hoping Clausen is starting, if at all).

It wasn't meant to be an insult....it's very smart actually. What I meant was that when ND played teams that could cover their receivers deep Clausen used his check downs a ton to keep from making mistakes....

I'd say Clausen has a better arm than Moore, but of course I've never seen them side by side like you have.

Pike's probably not got the arm to be a starter in this league. He has a lot of admirable intangibles though - I think he can be a valuable back up with some seasoning.

Oh and I'm reading everywhere that Edwards is dropping a lot of catches (and muffing a few punts/kick offs). Is it really that noticeable?

Thanks for the previous reply btw. Interesting to get the opinion of someone at the event.

In my opinion, besides his experience and winning record what really sets Moore apart at this point is his feet and his decisiveness. You could blink and you would miss Moore's 3-step drop, I'd wager he can take a 7-step drop in the same amount of time it took Jake to take a 3-step drop. This bodes well for us since play action is such an integral part of our offense. Moore is also much more decisive with the football, he pulls the trigger quick and usually finds someone open. Clausen has good feet, but they are not nearly as quick as Moore's. I think it's totally reasonable for a QB who has been in the NFL and this offense for several years to be more decisive with the ball than a rookie, so I wouldn't really count that against Clausen at this point.

Yup and check-downs can turn into big plays.

Im sure people will spin this a positive way cause of his fan club.

Jake was never the play it safe type if you ask me and fox loved him.

I agree with this. Everyone is expecting way too much from Edwards right now. He is taking on more learning then any rookie right now so everyone should expect him to progress slowly.

Yea I agree, I feel he is the biggest threat overall that we have at the TE position and he seems to have the drive to get those extra 3-4 yrds. King is reliable, but there's not much after the catch production from him.

Hopefully the FO is going to pass a little more this year to open up room to run for double trouble. Id hate to take snaps from dwill and jstew, but it gets frustrating to see run plays on 3rd and 6. If this team can convert more third downs and keep drives going than in previous yrs then maybe this team will be good enough to make a run for the SB. We are too conservative at times, I can understand if we have a reasonable lead but when we are up by a FG the passing game seems to not exist.

Oh and catman thanks for the update on Connor glad to hear he's playing good. After watching TC do you feel it was the right move sliding Beason to WLB and let Connor man the middle, or would you of prefered the filled the WLB spot with another player?

Connor looks like he knows what he's doing and always seems to find the ball, but I think it's too early to decide whether or not it was the right move. Beason is the best playmaker we have a LB right now, and the best playmaker in a tampa-2 should be lining up at WLB, so I think this move makes sense.

Oh hell, I didn't take it as an insult, I was more just putting his tendancy to check down into a positive context in regards to the Panthers.

He hasn't been dropping allot of catches, but the punts he's dropped have been pretty noticeable because they've hit him right in the hands.

...and unlike Thursday they had the jugs machine set to put an end-over-end spin on the ball today, more like a live kick, so it's like they're increasing the challenge level. On Thursday they had the jugs machine shooting the ball out almost like a pass.

Edit: Well actually, now that I think about it a punt normally travels more like a pass where a kick-off tends to have the end-over-end spin so what I saw today was probably KR practice vs. PR practice on Thursday.
