KARL URBAN is the law. The 38-year-old New Zealander will play the new Judge Dredd on the big screen.

In May, the project from London-based DNA Films was officially announced at Cannes, with Reliance BIG Pictures and IM Global providing a $45million budget and Pete Travis (Endgame) in the director's chair.

Urban, who played Dr Leonard 'Bones' McCoy in 2009's Star Trek movie, has now confirmed rumours that he has been cast as the futuristic law-enforcer.

He told Collider: "Well, it's in its very, very early days, but I feel pretty safe to say 'Yes. I am the law.'

"I've met with [director] Pete Travis, [producer] Andrew McDonald and we've had a really wonderful meeting of the minds. They have offered me the role and we're in the process of making that happen.

"I believe it's slated to start shooting in late October or early November in South Africa."

He added: "It's my understanding that it going to be harder, grittier, and above all faithful to the comic.

"This Dredd is not going to be wrapped up in ego. This Dredd is going to be faithful. The cool thing about Dredd to me was that with Dredd you always know where he stands. His attitudes are strong. What he does is strong.

"He's an iconic, badass, tough lawman with great ironic witty one-liners set in this futuristic post-apocalyptic world. I'm very excited about seeing this authentic and faithful adapation of that character and world on the screen."

He continued: "I can say that the producers behind this movie are being 100% faithful to the source material. The creator is involved as a consultant, and the artist, Jock, who's done some incredible work...he's also involved in the development stage. I can tell you that in no way, shape, or form is it related to any other movie that's come out called Judge Dredd.

"It's going to be hardcore and gritty. I feel most happy for fans of Dredd who are finally going to get the Dredd movie they so richly deserve."

And Karl has no worries about his face being hidden under the character's helmet. That's what happens in the comic books and that's what the fans want; indeed, one of the key complaints about the 1995 film starring Sylvester Stallone was that the mask was removed.

Urban assured us: "I can tell you that hypothetically - and this just gives you an idea of where our heads are collectively at - if I was to go see a movie called Judge Dredd, and the actor was to take his helmet off and full-on reveal his face and identity, I would puke in my popcorn."

    • Fair point but it is just the history of this franchise in being able to properly evaluate talent and over drafting players. I like getting the 2nd rounder back next year and I liked the TE pick in round 4. I also liked  the trade to get back in the first but would have went with Ladd. The rest of the draft I felt we over drafted especially round 2 and 3
    • Navigating the world of weight loss can be overwhelming, with countless products and promises making bold claims. However, choosing supplements that are supported by scientific research can provide a more reliable path to achieving your weight loss goals. This blog post will explore several science-backed supplements that have shown potential in supporting healthy weight loss, highlighting how they work and the evidence behind their effectiveness. 1. Green Tea Extract What It Is: Green tea extract is derived from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and contains potent antioxidants known as catechins. The most prominent catechin in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). How It Works: Green tea extract is known for its ability to enhance fat oxidation and increase metabolic rate. Research indicates that EGCG can help boost metabolism and improve fat burning, particularly during exercise. It also has thermogenic properties, which can increase the number of calories burned. Scientific Evidence: A study published in Obesity found that green tea extract significantly increased calorie expenditure and fat oxidation in overweight and obese individuals (source). Another meta-analysis in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition confirmed that green tea extract consumption was associated with a modest reduction in body weight and body fat (source). Usage Tips: To benefit from green tea extract, aim for a supplement providing 250-500 mg of EGCG per day. This dosage helps ensure a sufficient intake of active compounds without exceeding recommended levels of caffeine. 2. Garcinia Cambogia What It Is: Garcinia cambogia is a tropical fruit, and its extract is popular in weight loss supplements. The active ingredient, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), is believed to be the primary component contributing to its effects. How It Works: HCA is thought to inhibit the enzyme citrate lyase, which plays a role in fat production. It also may help reduce appetite by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, potentially leading to lower calorie intake. Scientific Evidence: A study in Journal of Obesity showed that Garcinia cambogia led to significant weight loss compared to a placebo, though the effects were modest (source). Another review in Current Therapeutic Research highlighted that Garcinia cambogia could be effective in weight loss when combined with a healthy diet and exercise (source). Usage Tips: Dosages of 500-1,000 mg of Garcinia cambogia extract before meals are commonly recommended. Look for supplements standardized to contain 50-60% HCA for the best results. 3. Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) What It Is: CLA is a type of polyunsaturated fatty acid found in meat and dairy products, particularly from grass-fed animals. It is also available as a dietary supplement. How It Works: CLA is believed to support weight loss by increasing fat metabolism and promoting the breakdown of fat cells. It may also help preserve lean muscle mass during weight loss. Scientific Evidence: Research published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that CLA supplementation resulted in a modest reduction in body fat and improvement in body composition (source). Another study in Obesity found that CLA could help reduce body fat, although the effects were more pronounced in some individuals than others (source). Usage Tips: Typical dosages range from 1,000-3,000 mg per day, divided into multiple doses. Opt for supplements with a CLA content of 80-90% for effectiveness. 4. Glucomannan What It Is: Glucomannan is a natural, water-soluble fiber extracted from the root of the konjac plant. How It Works: Glucomannan expands in the stomach, promoting a feeling of fullness and reducing appetite. This can help decrease overall calorie intake and support weight loss efforts. Scientific Evidence: A study in International Journal of Obesity demonstrated that glucomannan supplementation led to significant weight loss and improvements in cholesterol levels (source). Another review in Nutrition Bulletin confirmed that glucomannan effectively promotes weight loss and supports overall digestive health (source). Usage Tips: For effective appetite control, take 1,000-3,000 mg of glucomannan before meals with plenty of water. This helps ensure it expands in the stomach as intended. 5. Probiotics What They Are: Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that support gut health. They can be found in fermented foods and are also available as dietary supplements. How They Work: A healthy gut microbiome is linked to better weight management. Probiotics may help regulate appetite, improve metabolism, and support overall digestive health. Some strains, such as Lactobacillus gasseri, have been specifically studied for their effects on weight loss. Scientific Evidence: A study in British Journal of Nutrition found that probiotics, particularly Lactobacillus strains, can contribute to weight loss and reduce body fat (source). Another review in Obesity Reviews highlighted the role of probiotics in weight management and metabolic health (source). Usage Tips: Choose a probiotic supplement with a variety of strains and a high CFU count. Typical doses range from 1-10 billion CFUs per day, depending on the specific strains and health goals. 6. Caffeine What It Is: Caffeine is a stimulant commonly found in coffee, tea, and energy drinks. It is also available in supplement form. How It Works: Caffeine increases metabolic rate and enhances fat oxidation, especially during exercise. It also boosts energy levels, which can improve physical performance and contribute to more effective workouts. Scientific Evidence: Research in Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism showed that caffeine increased resting metabolic rate and fat oxidation (source). Another study in International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism confirmed that caffeine supplementation can enhance exercise performance and support weight loss (source). Usage Tips: Limit caffeine intake to 200-400 mg per day to avoid excessive stimulation. This is roughly equivalent to 2-4 cups of coffee. 7. Forskolin What It Is: Forskolin is a compound derived from the root of the Coleus forskohlii plant. It has been used in traditional medicine for its purported health benefits. How It Works: Forskolin is believed to increase levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP), a molecule that plays a role in fat metabolism. Higher cAMP levels may promote fat loss and support lean muscle mass. Scientific Evidence: A study in Obesity found that forskolin supplementation led to significant reductions in body fat and improvements in body composition (source). Another review in Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics highlighted forskolin's potential benefits for weight management and metabolic health (source). Usage Tips: Typical dosages range from 100-250 mg per day, standardized to contain 10-20% forskolin. 8. Raspberry Ketones What They Are: Raspberry ketones are compounds found in raspberries that give them their distinctive aroma. They are also available as a supplement. How They Work: Raspberry ketones are thought to support fat loss by increasing the breakdown of fat in fat cells. They may also enhance the release of adiponectin, a hormone involved in regulating metabolism. Scientific Evidence: A study published in Life Sciences indicated that raspberry ketones may help reduce body fat and improve metabolic health (source). Another review in Journal of Obesity highlighted the potential benefits of raspberry ketones in weight management (source). Usage Tips: Common doses range from 100-200 mg per day. Look for supplements with a high concentration of raspberry ketones for effectiveness. Combining Supplements with a Healthy Lifestyle While supplements can support weight loss, they are most effective when combined with a balanced lifestyle. Here are some additional tips to enhance your weight loss efforts: Adopt a Balanced Diet: Emphasize whole foods, including vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Avoid processed foods and excessive sugars. Stay Hydrated: Proper hydration supports overall health and can aid in appetite control. Exercise Regularly: Include both cardiovascular and strength training exercises in your routine. Regular physical activity is crucial for weight management. Get Quality Sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for metabolic health and appetite regulation. Consult with a Healthcare Professional: Before starting any new supplement regimen, consult with a healthcare provider to ensure it’s appropriate for your health needs and goals. • Honestly, if you want to train up a rookie WR, then you get to the CB and tell him to do just that to the guy... hook him, hold him, force him out of bounds, trash talk him, hard bump him off the line, tug his jersey during the run. Just make it hell on the kid. He's caught balls before time and time again. He needs to toughen up to the harassment that DBs are going to give him on every down this season.
