WR's to keep you eye on...

I went through the rosters of some teams today that are stacked at the WR position and I thought that they could be available via trade or wait out cuts. Now these guys aren't superstars but are still young and could help out with our situation.

Maurice Stovall, 25, 6'5" 220lbs, 24-366 1TD (last year)

Jason hill, 25, 6' 202lbs, 9-90 2 TDs

Derek Hagan, 25, 6'2" 215lbs, 8-101 1 TDs

Sam Aiken, 29, 6'2" 220lbs, 20-326 2 TDs

Sam Hurd, 25, 6'3" 208, 7-121 1 TD

Andre Caldwell, 25, 195lbs, 51-432 3 TDs

Caldwell obviously has the most production but could be hard to get...I would think a 5th rounder would do the trick. I also really like Sam Hurd...he's big, young, and on a talented team that's filled with wideouts. He probably wouldn't get cut but a 6th rounder might do.

I know it's early but we did the same thing with DT's last year so i figured I'd keep an eye out.

Thoughts?

interesting that you bring up jason hill. i really hope we don't cut him, i've been a fan of his since his days at wasu... whenever he's been given a chance to play he's shined but those chances don't come up very often so i'm not sure if it's character (since sing's big on that stuff) or what. i'd rather see him starting than morgan really.

if we are to cut or trade him though, i would love to see him come here and do really well. i've always liked your team and would still root for his success (expect for on October 24th).

I like Hurd as well. The thing is, though, that we've got several guys that are unproven. We're not going to cut any of our rookies for Sam Hurd. I could see Jarrett being cut, but we'll still be packed with six receivers:

Smith

LaFell

Moore

Edwards

Wright

Gettis

One of those six may not make it, if they end up keeping Jarrett. And there are other guys that have shown potential but seem to have little to no hope of making our squad. I'm throwing players like Charly Martin and Dexter Jackson in that camp.

Sure, right now, Hurd might be a safer option than Gettis or Wright. But Gettis has a lot of upside and we're going to give him due diligence; Wright has looked impressive both as a reciever and as a gunner.

We're in a funny spot right now. Even though we don't have many receivers that have really stepped up yet, we're not going to bring anyone else on in hopes that they will.

Stovall and Caldwell would be good fits here, but I likw what we have, I want us to give Wright a shot at playing wr as well as ST, which means we have Smitty, LaFell, Edwards, Jarrett, Moore, Gettis, Jackson, Wright... plus some other random people I didnt remember that wont make the team anyway, we wouldnt need anybody else, everybody thinks we need more WR's just because ours are unproven, but give them a chance to prove themselves

checking out and speculating about these receivers is certainly interesting ,as well as entertaining but my gut feeling is that we will go with the ones we presently have.

I would also put a couple more guys on that list (Cuts)

(Bengals) Matt Jones: 27, 6'6", 222 lbs., 65-761 yds., 2 TD's.

(Bengals) Andre Caldwell: 25, 6'0", 195 lbs., 51-432 yds., 3 TD's.

(Redskins) Malcom Kelly: 23, 6'4", 226 lbs., 25-347 yds., 0 TD's.

(Patriots) Sam Aiken: 29, 6'2", 220 lbs., 20- 326 yds., 2 TD's.

(Redskins) Devin Thomas: 23, 6'2", 218 lbs., 25-325 yds., 3 TD's.

(Browns) Sydric Steptoe: 25, 5'9", 200 lbs., 19-182 yds., 0 TD's.

(Rams) Laurent Robinson: 25, 6'2", 197 lbs., 13-167 yds., 1 TD.

(Buccaneers) Reggie Brown: 29, 6'1", 197 lbs., 9-155 yds., 0 TD's.

(Ravens) Demetrius Williams: 27, 6'2", 202 lbs., 8-142 yds., 1 TD.

(Broncos) Brandon Lloyd: 29, 6'0", 194 lbs., 8-117 yds., 0 TD's.

(Jets) Aundrae Allison: 26, 6'0", 198 lbs., 10-109 yds., 0 TD's.

(Giants) Derek Hagan: 25, 6'2", 215 lbs., 8-101 yds., 1 TD.

These are all of the guys that are 6th on their teams depth chart and recorded more than 100 receiving yards last year.

Five of these guys (Jones, Caldwell, Kelly, Aiken, and Thomas) recorded more yards than Jarrett (our second leading receiver on the active roster) did last year.

Nonetheless, I would sign any of these guys if they were cut.
