So this was Jakes problem.

Good point Deac, but we all know that 90% of Delhomme's interceptions were thrown at absolutely devastatingl times, so my criticism still stands. In his last 3 full seasons as a Panther, Jake threw 41 picks!!! You just can't give the ball to your opponents offense that many times and expect to win a lot of games, no matter if the majority of them are thrown early in the game or not. That's how teams get buried early and spend the majority of a game playing from behind.

And in all fairness you can't really compare Brees trend of interceptions to Delhomme's considering Brees averages around 28 to 30 TD passes a season and Delhomme around 17. Brees has a much better TD to INT ratio, so for every pick he throws he throws 2-3 TD's where as for every pick Delhomme throws he's only throwing 1-2 TD's(if he's lucky).

Years used 2003 - 2009

Jake Delhomme

120 td's

89 interceptions.

2669 attempts

19258 yards

Drew Brees

184 td's

94 Interceptions

3611 attempts

27141 yards

Brees has over 8k more yards and 60 more TD's over that time period on 1,000 more attempts in mostly pass happy offenses. As most of the differences in Yards between the two come in the last three years.

Drew Bree's 2003 year looks really similar to Jake's 2009 season also...

Not saying they are in any way comparable, just saying that most QB's have a year like Jake had last season...even the Mighty Bree's had one of those.

Also Drew Bree's >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jake Delhomme.

Bree's was during his rookie years. Jake was all through his career.

Bree's was during his rookie years. Jake was all through his career.

2001 was his rookie year, his first year starting was 2002.

2003 is when I started the numbers, since that was when Jake started starting...

Lets play a game

2 QB's in run first offenses for the most part during 2003-2005 (3 year time period)

QB A Stats - 8843 yards on 790 completions with 1256 attempts, 62.8 comp percentage with 62 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. QB rating around 84 or so

QB B Stats - 10526 yards on 838 completions with 1417 attempts, 59.1 Comp percentage with 72 touchdowns and 47 interceptions. QB rating around 84 or so.

Pick between these two players

Jake Delhomme

Drew Brees.

I don't see excuses in this article. Jake always took responsibility for his play. That's not in question. This was written for Browns fans, the most optimistic fans in the world. They've been bad for a very long time. Even had their team stolen. And yet they continue on. I love Browns fans. I wish them all the luck in the world.

What does deeply disturb me after reading this is the coaching of Davidson & Scherer. They decided to put in a new method of offense without considering the key player's skill set? After the Arizona playoff game, Jake accepted it because he was willing to try anything. He depended on his coaches having an answer. And they let him down. How many other players will they ask to change to fit their methods? Is that why we've gone young this year at a time when the team isn't hit with extra cap charges, etc? Are they better teachers than coaches? I'm not at all sure that's a good thing for the future.

We all bashed McCoy, especially his statement about not wanting to change a QB's play. Maybe he was right after all.

Not quite Jake rookie year wsa in 1999. Even if he didnt see the field he still got experience in TC and Preseason Games and in the Euro league.

Drew Bree's rookie year was in 2001, he started starting in 2002. That's what I was referring towards. I'm also in no way saying that Jake is Better then Brees, cause well he isn't. It's not even close at this point.

They've been saying this for awhile now!!! I remember recording the Miami game last year on Thursday night --- I went to the game in Charlotte. When I got home, I watched the pregame show on NFL Network with Jake and he was talking about the Arizona playoff game (which I went to also) and how he "lost it". He said that he wasn't Jake that game and sort of lost focus on who he was. He talked about needing to get back in the grove.

The week prior we beat Atlanta. It was the third game where Jake hadn't thrown a pick! It looked like we were getting somewhere. He talked about being back during that interview before the Dolphins game. Of course, Jake threw a pick.

In fairness to Jake, he outperformed Henne that game.. our run game was the real issue. Still, this talk about Jake's mojo is old news.

Mojo sounds better than a dead arm.

He simply did not, and probably does not, have the ability to hit that 6" window required of NFL QBs anymore.

...and there is that little problem of safeties being able to read him.

I wish him the best; but, I'm glad he's moved on and I'm glad the Panthers have too, hopefully.
