So this was Jakes problem.

So basically they let Delhomme just throw it where he wanted too. I guess they told him to under throw balls last year and to throw it in double and triple coverage as well.

thank you!!!

you cant teach someone th underthrow and overthrow so many balls the way he did, and last year wasnt the only year so its not like it was the first time and that was actually the reason

I'm pretty sure the organization did say they were trying to make him more fundamentally sound last year. I don't think the article is false, it is a pretty weak excuse though. Jake is just not a very good or refined QB. His accomplishments are based solely on his intangibles.

My question would be,if a new fundammental changes was the reason for Jake's flame out ,then why did his problems still persist after he was given the green light to go back to his old style,as attested to by the statements below?

"Finally, after consulting with McCown and others, Scherer told Delhomme about midway through the season to go back to his comfort zone".

It could be because his confidence was completely shot after the first half of the season, I think his confidence was shot after the Arizona game.

QB is a mental game more so then many other positions, if your confidence is shot...you stop being who you are when you throw the ball...take less chances and so forth....It gets to you if it continues to happen like it did with Delhomme.

Well, if anybody knows about unconventional QB's, it's Mike Holmgren, and Jake is about as unconventional as they come. He really is a lot like Brett Farvre, but with less natural talent, so I can see how trying to "fix" him could backfire.

Anyway, I hope Delhomme plays well in Cleveland, because nobody who works as hard as Jake deserves to go out on such a bad note.

Such utter bullshit. It's amazing to me how the Panthers are still making excuses for Delhomme. He's always been a glamorized average to below average QB. He's always been a product of the guys around him. In '03, look at all the weapons he had. In '04 Moose was still in his prime and bailed out Jake ALOT. I remember that season very well because I wrote reviews of each game that year for another board. In '05 Smith became the All-Pro receiver that he is today and made alot of acrobatic catches that saved Jake many times just like Moose did in '04. I remember Jake almost getting Smith killed that year for leading him right into a Buc defender with a over-the-head wild throw.

His luck just started running out starting in 2006. Since then he started gradually getting worse and worse. He couldn't be the average QB that could be saved by his receivers anymore. This is when he started sinking to below average standards. He had his highest number of bad games in '08, with the blowup in the Arizona playoff game. It's still amazing to me that some fans think he actually played well that season. I guess the blow up against the f**king RAIDERS wasn't enough of an eye opener for them. Then he poo the bed the following season in '09 and still there were people defending him during that season. Bottom line is no one else is responsible for Jake's play, but Jake. Im sick of this team (and some fans) always making excuses for him no matter how poo he is. I have never seen this amount of coddling for any other player in NFL history.

Where so you see "the Panthers" making excuses for Delhomme? It seems to me that it's only 1 single current member of the Panthers organization who is taking part of the blame for his bad season, and he seems to be speaking for himself.

Fact: Jake Delhomme was never the same Quarterback after Tommy John surgery

Year QB rating Comp %

2003 80.6 59.2

2004 87.3 58.2

2005 88.1 60.2

2006 82.6 61.0

2007 111.8 64.0

2008 84.7 59.4

2009 59.4 55.5

Looks like the same QB to me. A hot cold slinger with poor accuracy who made occasional good plays and pooped it up about every 3 to 4th game a season. His stats would've come back down to earth in 2007 too those first 4 games were against poo teams and #89 was still the best receiver in the league.

That is an intriguing article and everything, but there is one main problem with it.

The QB Coach in question wasn't present in 2008, where Delhomme still played below average and doesn't explain some terrible games he had, specifically the one against Arizona.

I feel for Cleveland and I know they are hoping for the best. But Jake is done.

he threw 30 interceptions btw 2008 and 2009. and who knows what the final number would have been had he played out the entire season
