Who will be the Colts' starting quarterback in Week 1?

I would have also chosen Vikings if I were D Jones. You have to know going to indy that this is a "QB competition". It's not a real competition as they want AR to work out. Worst case scenario for the Colts is he beats AR for QB1. Plus do you think the staff in indy is on the hot seat? Its a 1-yr deal sure but im not sure I would hitch my wagon on that staff.

At the NFL combine in February, Colts general manager Chris Ballard said the team would be bringing a QB in and that QB would have a chance to compete for the starting job. 

"It's gotta be the right guy to create real competition," Ballard said. "But we want to create real competition. I think it's good for the team, I think it's good for Anthony."

This appears to mean that Jones will have a legitimate chance to win Indy's starting QB job over Anthony Richardson.

With Daniel Jones and Sam Darnold both leaving in free agency, that means the Vikings are down to just one quarterback on their roster: J.J. McCarthy. 

Even if McCarthy is the starter, the Vikings still need to bring in someone for the backup job. Also, McCarthy is coming off a devastating knee injury and he's never taken an NFL regular-season snap, which is why the backup job is going to be so important in Minnesota. 

The Vikings could try to go big by bringing in Aaron Rodgers or they could go for someone else who's still available like Carson Wentz, Jameis Winston, Jacoby Brissett, Joe Flacco, Gardner Minshew, Taylor Heinicke or Mac Jones.

I think they will label it a competition but start AR week 1. I do think Jones will end up the starter by the end of the season though.

The Cowboys haven't exactly been busy during the tampering period, but they did make another move: The team has agreed to terms with Solomon Thomas on a two-year deal worth up to $8 million, ESPN has reported. 

The 49ers made Thomas the third-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, but he hasn't quite lived up to his draft spot. Thomas has been a role player with the Jets for the past three seasons and he hasn't been bad: He put up a career-high five sacks in 2023 followed by 3.5 sacks in 2024.

Bucs signing P Riley Dixon

 — Tampa Bay is signing Broncos punter Riley Dixon to a two-year deal. Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the deal is worth $6 million.

Brissett is the quintessential backup QB to me--gets the job done. Heinicke is my second choice.  Mac Jones?  If you want someone to compete more than mentor.

Right Minnesota is loaded on offense. I’m all in on AAron to the Vikes for 1 year while McCarthy heals up fully and coached to take the reins. Favre-Rodgers saga completed ha. Then begone

Milton Williams better stay healthy 

The Patriots gave Williams a huge four-year, $104 million contract that includes $51 million in guaranteed money. One other thing the contract includes is a hefty set of per game roster bonuses. 

Here are the numbers from CBS Sports' Joel Corry, who is a former NFL agent. 

The Patriots are taking per game roster bonuses to an extreme. Milton Williams has $2.55M ($150,000 for each game active) in 2027 & 2028. The biggest I can recall before this is Colin Kaepernick with $2M annually in his 2014 contract extension.

In four seasons with the Eagles, Williams played in 67 of a possible 68 games. However, he only started in 19 of those. If the Patriots are planning to make him a full time starter, Williams will need to stay healthy or he could miss out on $150,000 for every game he misses.

The deal also includes a pick swap with the Eagles getting a 2026 fifth-round pick and the Texans getting a 2026 sixth-rounder. Gardner-Johnson is a known ball hawk, who had six interceptions in 2024 and 2022 for the Eagles in separate stints. The Texans lost their starting safety Eric Murray to the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year, $22.5 million deal in free agency, so they'll use Gardner-Johnson to fill that void.

Interesting strategy by the Texans. Seems they might be thinking he had a great year 1 and a sophomore slump. Let’s see if he can be “the guy” year 3 without a stacked roster. If he is, they pay him record contract, if he’s mid they get leverage to negotiate a smaller deal then have money to go do more on the OL later
