We've even been tied to him

oh wow, hadn't seen that, honestly not sure how I'd feel about it.

Not a fan of trading for someone who had a bad midseason knee injury, he tore both his ACL and MCL, he might not even be 100% at any point this next season.  Which means we'd basically be making a trade for the future for a player who would only be under contract for 3 years after that.

I'd rather have overpaid for DK who would have had a bigger immediate impact.

Really would come down to what the 49ers would want and how his contract breaks down in the future, if it wouldn't be bad cap hits because the 49ers had to eat the signing bonus, it would make him more attractive to me, but the torn up knee is still going to be in the back of my mind.

Shows how rare players like Derrick Henry are.
I am sad for CMC. I think he could make a good slot receiver but everyone knows he will never go for that.

I mean, I'm not saying CMC definitely won't remain effective beyond 30 but the history of the position is the history of the position.

Why?

Don't get me wrong, I've always been a Kupp fan, but he'll turn 32 before training camp, hasn't been able to stay healthy, and plays the same role that Thielen already plays for us and who already has a rapport with Bryce.

Because of that, he doesn't really add anything new to the team unless we were planning on trading/cutting Thielen.

But since neither would be long term solutions at the position anyways, I'd rather just stick it out with Thielen for his last year under contract given Bryce's comfort level with him already.  This is a make or break year for Bryce, I think that comfort level with someone who hasn't had the injury issues that Kupp has had is better for us this year than Kupp would be as a replacement for him.

Because he runs great routes and can run block. We won't be signing him to become our alpha. I can see next year we try draft our future No1 when there's better WR talent. Bryce seems to thrive in 5 wide so have 2 savey vets either side sounds good to me

I wouldn't be surprised to see CMC come back when we are on our Superbowl run.

    • This was his first season playing where he was healthy. I have never seen anyone be given more chances to get healthy than this guy. I don't know what contract he will get, but someone will be gambling that he will be available. If he could be had for back-up guard money, I'd go for him quickly, and use him situationally as an extra tight end. If he can't be, that's fine. In my fantasy scenario, we have completely remade our offense under a new and improved Bryce with an Offensive Coordinator (Canales) who finally figured out how to run the offense later in the year.  I can dream. And all of my dreams have been wrong. We will not get Warren, Skattebo, or Becton, and all three will be major contributors wherever they go.
    • He seems to be able to handle FA signings pretty well, but the draft is where a GM makes or breaks a team and the results are inconclusive at the moment.
    • There’s also a big difference between our starters and most other teams. We’ve been bottom of the barrel since second half of 2018. Drafting a “starter” here is a lot easier than drafting a starter in KC so your stat, while true, doesn’t indicate that we are draft less starters each draft and we aren’t getting impact guys outside Brown and 50% of an impact guy in Horn. After round 1, since 2018, Chubba is literally the only impact starter in 7 drafts. Thats horrific drafting and it’s why we’ve spent $270M on 2 guards, 2 DTs and 1 safety. People go to the SB when they spend that on their franchise QB, not on guards, DTs and safeties. I hope they all make the team better but overpaying positions we should be drafting and developing on the cheap is not the best way to build a contender.
