Defensive Needs:  DE, NT depth, CB, S, Edge, LB.

Offensive Needs:  WR, TE, RT, RB

FS, LB depth, and NT depth (Crumedy? Draft pick?) left to go for the defense.

I expect Dan Chisena (for ST primarily) and could see the team kicking the tires on Tyler Lockett.

Sets the team up nicely leading into the draft......

I missed Tershawn Wharton.  Just stumbled over it. Here is how I see the DE Milton Williams failed deal ($26m per year).

The Panthers then sign NT Bobby Brown for $7m and DE Wharton for $18m.  In other words, the Panthers get 2 solid players for $25m-- $1m less than the Milton contract.

WHAT PANTHERS GOT FOR $25m (combined):

  • DE Tershawn Wharton:  7 sacks, 68.3 pass rush grade.  44.3 run defense grade.
  • NT Bobby Brown: 0 sacks, 67.7 run defense grade. Overall PFF rating: 63.3

WHAT PATRIOTS GOT FOR $26m:

  •  Milton Williams:  6 sacks, 90.0 pass rush grade.  43.1 run defense grade.

Lockett is all but guaranteed to go to Vegas

Why?

Don't get me wrong, I've always been a Kupp fan, but he'll turn 32 before training camp, hasn't been able to stay healthy, and plays the same role that Thielen already plays for us and who already has a rapport with Bryce.

Because of that, he doesn't really add anything new to the team unless we were planning on trading/cutting Thielen.

But since neither would be long term solutions at the position anyways, I'd rather just stick it out with Thielen for his last year under contract given Bryce's comfort level with him already.  This is a make or break year for Bryce, I think that comfort level with someone who hasn't had the injury issues that Kupp has had is better for us this year than Kupp would be as a replacement for him.

CMC is also creeping up on the dreaded 30 for RBs.

Aiyuk on his way out the door?!?!?!

Huh?  I know he got hurt last year, but they just signed him to a huge deal, are there rumors of them trying to already trade him?

    • I will say that while fitterer was all over the place with no clue, Morgan at least seems to have a plan. Sign your good players, use fa to address big weaknesses,  don't mortgage the future, and try to build through the draft.  The results are still questionable but I can say we have improved.  He realized first our interior o line was trash, addressed it and it might have paid off handsomely bc we don't have to draft a qb this year. I still think x will grow into a 1,000 yd 8 td guy which isn't record setting but strong, brooks was a huge swing and a miss, but Wallace, jt, Smith wade and Coker were all solid gets and he also got a 2nd rounder back this draft and got Mike Jackson for a 7th that would've been cut.  This year our run d was trash so he addressed it with run d specific additions. Time will tell if it works but I am cautiously optimistic after years of being blatantly pessimistic and a good chunk of that is Morgan's work
    • With 3 coaches in 3 seasons, I didn't expect much development honestly. Coming out of college, he was always a project receiving tight end that was a very physical blocker. From what I remember, the thought was if he was able to develop his catching and route running, he could just truck people with the ball in his hands because he loves the physical contact. We've just sucked at developing talent for decades. Either guys have it when they get here or they don't.
