Let me be clear too, I don't in any way shape or form have an issue with re-signing Tremble or have any problem with a player....but he is basically a JAG. He isn't close to irreplaceable in terms of what he does on the field. Quite the opposite. 

It's the price tag I have an issue with. Keeping him around, 100% fine with that.

So 2 years $10.5 and up to $16 with incentives isn't too bad

Ertz had 66 catches for 654 yards and 7tds last season.  That's almost more than Tremble has had in his 4 seasons combined.

How would you compare Ertz's blocking to Tremble?  Ertz had a rep for being a weak blocker coming out of college.  He has improved, but is he equal to Tremble?  I don't know the answer.  However, I know that when you evaluate TEs, receiving is only part of the equation.  Tremble is a good lead blocker and is very effective blocking in space.  Since his receiving is improving and he is 24, I like this contract the more I think about it.  Tremble had only 249 yards or so, but he was targeted only 29 times.  That can be that he was in on running plays for the most part.  It can be QB confidence in you.  It can be that you weren't open---but he grabbed 23 of them.  That is nearly 80% of targets (a good percentage for NFL TEs is 70% and above, with the elite TEs often surpassing 80% of targets. 

By the way--who is the person catching Bryce's "walk off" pass?  I can't see his number?

Let's say we draft Mason Taylor in the third round. We have a very solid TE group, imo, young as hell, at a cost to the taxpayers of about $10m or less for 2025. 

Tremble is your blocking TE.

Sanders is your pass catcher with upside

Taylor is your all around TE starter with upside out the arse.

Big picture, I see it.

That should count for 2 TDs.  His hands were bad coming out of college--and they have improved.  I was a TE in college, and to me, the toughest catches were the ones that were coming straight towards you.  I would rather catch running and looking over one shoulder when you have a dominant hand in the process.  In fairness, others liked catching passes with their thumbs together in their chest.  I dunno.

This is why I really dislike having former players in roles with the team. You love them as players but if they fug up in these news roles and hurt the team, it's mixed emotions. And it is really hard to separate the two eras.

I will always love Dan the player.

My father was an all-ACC and preseason All-American tight end at South Carolina when I was in the womb.  He tried coaching high school and Pop Warner, and he realized something.   It is difficult for someone who has skills that came naturally to teach others who do not have that natural ability how to develop that skill.  He said, "That is probably why the greatest athletes are not the greatest coaches. You can't describe how to achieve something that came naturally."  I found, as an educator, that the best teachers are often the worst mentors for new or weak teachers for the same reason.  I wonder if this applies to GM work?  I did not like the hire (Morgan) for that reason.  At least we can say this:  Our GM is not a former sports writer or minor league baseball player.  

I am waiting to see if Morgan develops a pattern.  Last year, if you consider the round, I think his best two picks were Wallace and Smith-Wade--defensive players.  However, Morgan was a 4-3 MLB and we are in the 3-4, a different animal for LBs--at least in theory.

Yeah, it I think it depends on the makeup of the person, as well. Larry Bird and Danny Ainge were very successful. John Lynch has been great. I would be willing to bet that Greg Olsen would be a fantastic coach/exec.

Some guys have that ability in them and some don't. Can you imagine how terrible Jordan would have been as a HC? Probably even worse than he was as a talent evaluator.

This contract makes him the 22nd highest avg contract among TEs with potential to be top 16.

Gotta wonder if folks complaining about this and the Corbett deal just want to be miserable.

He also had the roty throwing it to him, is 34, will definitely not repeat those stats this year.

Tremble had one of the worst qbs throwing it to him ( bad bryce) is 24, is on the way up and got less $$. I bet this year receiving stat wise tremble and ertz will be a lot closer

Contracts should be part of what you did, but also what you hope they will do. It is a tricky balance.
