Body of Lorenzen Wright found near Memphis, TN

On Monday, we mentioned the mysterious disappearance of former journeyman big guy Lorenzen Wright(notes). Wright, who last played in the NBA for the Cavaliers in 2009, had been missing from his Smyrna, TN home since July 18.

Unfortunately, news broke Wednesday afternoon that Wright's body had been found. From Eyewitness News in Memphis:

Memphis police are investigating the body of a man who was found in Southeast Memphis and a source tells Eyewitness News that is Lorenzen Wright.

According to sources, the body was found in the wooded area of Hacks Cross and Winchester Road. It appears, sources say he had been shot and it may be self inflected.{/ysp:blocks}

Obviously, nothing will be made official until police complete their investigation, but no matter if there is foul play or not, this is terrible. Not only was Lorenzen Wright (only 33 years old) way, way, way too young to die, he also leaves behind six children. Just terrible.

Our condolences and prayers go out to Lorenzen Wright's family.

Really weird story. I remember Wright on the Grizzlies, he wasn't an all star but a decent player. Terrible story and I think it's going to be a very strange story when all the details come out.

I feel terrible for his children. I saw a video a few days ago where his mother was talking with a reporter. She said his 13 year old daughter was crying and heartbroken that her father hadn't called her. Apparently he spoke with her every single day and she didn't know why he wasn't calling.

Despite this police were still saying they didn't suspect foul play.

Memphis police have confirmed that it's his body that was found and they are saying he was murdered.

It's really pathetic that a lot of the media took stories about foreclosures on Wright's home and started suggesting he committed suicide. That's absolutely appalling.

Apparently he called the police as he was being shot multiple times... Hardly someone not fighting to live.

Yeah when I first heard about the details of the murder, I had a feeling she had something to do with it.

Yeah the spouse is always the first suspect in a murder case.

Neighbors said there was a large fire in Sherra Wright's backyard after Lorenzen Wright disappeared, according to the report. They found it odd she would start a fire on one of the hottest nights of the year.

    • If the dude can be a true #1 option, and I think he can be, then it's not a wasted pick or trying to be a poverty franchise. It's taking a game changer, which the Panthers need.
    • Chinn is 6'3" 220, Luvu is 6'3 235, Walker is 6'2 245. He is nothing like Chinn. He is not a gadget player, he is a true ILB that can rush the passer and play edge on passing downs.  He is also a leader, which we definitely need on defense, especially with Shaq gone.
