8. I’m still not sure if the Panthers will keep kickoff specialist Todd Carter or let Jason Baker handle that role.

I really hope Baker can be good enough to handle kickoff duties. We really need an extra roster spot.

Rookie WR Brandon LaFell looks extremely smooth running routes and is turning heads. "He's good at route running," CB Chris Gamble said. "He's kind of quick off the line, and he catches the ball well."

DB Marcus Hudson has been carried off the field, and trainers are applying ice to his calf. A free-agent signee, Hudson is hoping to earn a backup role in the secondary.

Leonard can't be that hurt and I wouldn't worry about him at all. He was goofing off with the linebackers before morning practice and kept lining up at receiver in some defensive drill led by Richard Smith.

I can say this about Louis Leonard: If you get him in the open field with a big head of steam, I pity the defensive back that has to try to take him down.

think the Panthers should count their blessings that CB Captain Munnerlyn didn’t stay in for a senior season because he might have been a first-round pick earlier this year. As it was the Panthers got a complete steal in the seventh round of the 2009 draft. Munnerlyn is very physical and will be a starter for this team at some point in the not-so-distant future. He has a great football temperment and did a nice job filling in for Marshall tonight in practice.

I’d be a little worried about Carolina’s linebacking crew. Beason is learning a new spot and they’re not particularly deep with Thomas Davis out. Covering tight ends and running backs might be a problem in the early going this season. Beason is OK at it, but he’s not T.D.

Yeah, they said he looked pretty good the first 2 days too. Sad.

Truely worth noting. When things were fun, and he'd just play with a sense of having no issues, he was awesome. But I regret that this sport has gotten to such a corporate level that you become a market item, with dozens of people depending on you from everything from a 30% commish to a Bojangle's Grand Opening gig..meanwhile a simple autograph is a task and a single loss can wipe you out!

He was funny, my favorite event was that wardrobe malfunction at Atlanta, then things got too serious. He forgot the sights and the sounds he thought he wouldn't, post SB.

I think for the most part that our Defensive front 7 will be above average and potentially good this season, but the more I hear of the development of our WR's especially Brandon I can't help but feel more amped about how well our offense can be.

This season will definitely be a fun one.

The covering RB's and TE's are what I'm worried about. TD gave this defense an extra element that not many defenses have. A 4-4/4-4 OLB who can cover almost any TE and RB 1 on 1.

As much as I like Beason, he just doesn't have that kind of speed. It will be interesting to see how the Panthers cover that up early in the season.
