Filling out job applications online...

Recommended Posts

There is a program called "Form Filler" or "Form Filer". I can't remember if it has 1 or 2 "L's". When you have a form come up, you can click on it and it will fill in things like your name, address, just about everything that you have already programmed into it's memory. You might check under CNET and see if it's still out there. Saves you a world of time filling out mundane information.

It used to be free, but not sure if it still is. I'd probably start with "Form Filler" first. (Say that 10 times fast! LOL)

The main thing I dislike about online applications is their length. It seems like a lot of times the apps have fillers designed to lengthen the application and "weed out" those that don't really want to job.

The key is to follow up in person inquiring about the application or at minimum, call about the status. Somtimes it works and other times it doesn't. Honestly, I do the hiring for my department and a simple on-line application gets a glance most times. If nothing jumps off the page, it gets filed. People who call or show up about the status does one, if not two things: It shows that there is a genuine interest (still) and it gets a first, albeit informal, quick interview. You can tell little about a person from a generic on-line application. You can know a lot more from a quick 2 or 3 minute converstaion even over the phone.

I have a stoner friend who has been trying to get an internship (basically he is willing to work for free for a several months at a hotel) just so he can finally get his diploma even though he technically walked 2 years ago, but he just can't understand why no one is returning his emails to general info mailboxes.

Hell yea. That's why they are other peoples feelings and not mine. If they were my feelings then they'd be my business.
