Looking back at the 2008 draft

I could care about Hayden. There are no drafts where there isn't at least one goof. To me the biggest sin was losing a 2nd and 4th rounder while taking a RB with the 13th pick.

RB is one of the lowest value positions in the NFL in the first place, and that was an especially deep draft in RB's and OT's. It turned out OK for us, but that trade makes it a B+ in my mind.

They fell too much in love with Stewart.

people still don't get why an rb was drafted at 13?

carolina wanted to duplicate the davis/foster tandem.

after davis was gone and williams signed, foster was forced to play the role of davis.

we all see how well that worked out.

as deep as the 2008 draft was, there was only one rb that fit davis's mold...and he wasn't going to make it out of the first round.

*yawn*

The only impact players on that list came from the first round and we all know that we draft first-rounders fantastically.

?? is Charles Godfrey not a starter? and one of our 7th round picks will be starting, along with Dan Connor (possibly), so would that not make them impact players?

If you're a starter on a bad defense, does that make you an impact player? Godfrey improved slightly last year, but he's still a below average starting safety.

The 7th rounders were good by Panther standards in that they have a chance of seeing the field at all, so I guess that's something.

being an impact player means you make a difference on the team. so what does that have to do w/ being below average by your standards (or anyone else's for that matter)

He had 3 FFs and an INT in that 5 game win streak. He was doing well.

The 7th rounders dominated the Vikings, Giants, and Saints. They wern't too shabby in pass protection either considering who they were up against.

How many 2nd year safeties start and are above average? Especially guys who have to learn a new position. I don't know but I doubt there are many of them. Godfrey is fine where he is in his development. Look how long it took a first rounder Davis to convert from safety to linebacker.

Bernadeau was a starter at left guard for seven games and generally did an outstanding job for a second year player. Schwartz started 3 games at right tackle.

Both of these guys filled in and did extremely well. The reason we didn't resign Vincent was because of Bernadeau. They were extremely good pickups.

Most first day draft picks don't do better than these guys did.

What if you're a starter in the secondary of the league's 4th ranked passing defense? Or just a starter anywhere in the league's 8th ranked defense? Are you good enough then?
