Important discovery

I made an unrealted but equally important discovery this weekend.

The pan that is under my AC unit in the attic holds apporximately 20 gallons of water if the draining tube ever gets clogs and overflows. I know that the pan holds approximately 20 gallons because we made 3 1/2 trips with a 6 gallon wet vac to clean it up. 6 X 3.5 = 21.

After 20 gallons, the water will spill over and pour into your ceilings at inopportune times such as when you are having friends over for dinner on a Saturday night. I also made the important discovery that you should never bury the white drainage tube outside of your house under 3 feet of mulch.

I had that problem a few weeks ago. Except when the draining tube got clogged, the water dripped down the tube before falling on the attic floor, missing the catch pan altogether.

Nice little $400 repair to the ceiling.

There was some great luck involved in the whole thing though....one of the people that we had over the house that night was our friend who owns a heating and air company.

"Thanks for coming over for dinner and drinks but before we do that can you fix this little issue I have...."

Would have cost me quite a bit to call someone out on a Saturday night.
