If Jake delhomme takes the browns to the superbowl...

I don't know about the playoffs but Cleveland will be better than last year's 5-11 squad. Jake has been known for 4th quarter rallies and if he recovers some confidence they could very well be 8-8 this year. Could be their first non-losing season in a while.

Thought they won 10 games just a few years ago and barely missed the playoffs? Not that it matters much now though.

Yeah they went 10-6 in 2007 which is still several years ago. Just ask people here how long ago 2008 was.:D

But before that, the last winning season they had was a 9-7 season back in 2002.

I guess that lone winning season slipped by me. The one year wonder season by Derek Anderson.

That miracle 10-6 season for Cleveland involved an extremely weak schedule. The only team they beat with a winning record was the Seahawks at home. The combined Win-Loss record of the teams they did beat was 50-84. I doubt they have that kind of a lucky draw on the schedule this year with having to play the NFC South and AFC East.

They definitely don't have an easy schedule. But if anyone knows how to play the NFC South it is Jake. And the AFC East still has Buffalo. Again I don't think they are playoff bound by any means but they could do better than the 5-11 of last year. Assuming Jake plays to his 2008 level at least.

If he plays to his 2008 level they will easily be 1-15. He doesnt have Steve Smith and Double Trouble to bail him out nor does he have the cupcake schedule that the panthers had that year.

Jake is very likely to be better than who they had last year and they went 5-11. Jake was not bad in 2008 at all. He completed 60% of his passes, threw 15 TDs compared to 12 INTs and has a passer rating of 85. Not great but fairly good. But he won several games in the fourth quarter and did everything he could to pull out other ones like against the Giants. If he plays that well, Cleveland will be middle of the pack.

Right now their defense is as good or better than ours. I don't see where the offense will come from though. Their wide receivers were inconsistent and their running game is not great.

His confidence could use some work but I think his real nemesis is Tommy Jone.

Delhomme has always been a gunslinger prone to mistakes; last year he just couldn't put the ball where he wanted. His passes sailed like crazy. I remember one announcer in that gusty Jets game commented on a Jake throw with, "and another blimp from Jake results in an I-N-T."

It's colder in Cleveland, their team isn't as good, (although they have a great O-line, running game and some promising defensive players), and there is more wind.

Talk about a real long-shot scenario. Even if he played like his old self, just getting the Browns to the playoffs would feel like winning the Super Bowl. He might get them an extra win or two considering that even his bad play last season would be considered an "improvement". Certainly better than "2-17 for 23 yards" Derek Anderson.

Oh, and with this hypothetical, definite mention on the next "Get Your Story Straight" commercial...
