If Fox is gone after '10...who do you want?

yeah, i like Gruden for the job too. i love bill cowher, but he's only going to coach our team the exact same way john fox does. he'll run the ball, run the ball, play action to steve smith... and then he'll rely on his defense to win the game. nothing will change.

i definitely wouldn't mind Gruden though, because i know he'll throw the ball and he'll want his team to put up points.

same as what he said....

One of the coaches being sighted for concern besides JF, is a former Panthers coach, who was well liked, a great defensive coach and brute player in his time, and certainly carrying some of his own baggage...Jack Del Rio!

I certainly would think he has had some issues, but he has had some questionable people to work with at J'ville. I just think he certainly would make a spot on the "possible" roster for me.

I have been thinking what ONE question I might ask of the Big Kat at Woffard...and this is a temptaion..but I sure would hate to hear a sudden "check please!" So I'll prolly do a weak but personally important quiery like "who do you think will start at QB?"...NOT!

BTW...did I hear Claws say "God's given me a special talent.."? I am not doubting the fact, but ...you listening to that Matt? :conf:

in bold this. the head should have the biggest balls on the team no homo. you will never win playing scared football.

Agreed, and I think that's been the problem throughout Fox's tenure. Keyshawn Johnson (though not highly regarded by most Panthers fans) made a similar statement was he was here. We can't play scared and win football games. We'll see if that changes during what could be Fox's last season and potential lockout looming.

I honestly don't like most of the suggestions in here.

I wouldn't want Meeks, or Davidson. Especially Davidson ~ He hasn't proven to be worth a damn, but at the same time, we haven't exactly had a balanced enough offense talent wise, to make a true judgement on him.

If we were to change head coaches, I'd want a young defensive minded coach, not currently on the team.

All that being said, can't wait to see this team play this season. With a winning season, I don't see him leaving.

I have heard from more than one source (all second hand though), that Fox is gone no matter what he does. I would expect that if we have a winning season he will decide to leave on his own and will have plenty of takers.

If this is so, then while you are deciding who you want as our next coach, you need to also think about what scheme they would run and whether we are set for that or will need a year or two to develop it. For example Cowher will run the 3-4 almost guaranteed. Could we do it? A young guy like McDermott will run the 4-3 much like the Eagles. Schottenheimer would run the offense much like San Diego runs theirs now and would probably look toward the 3-4 as well..

So not only are we looking at a change but one that either fits with our personnel or a change which will require a year or two to develop. (likely means not great seasons during the transition). Do you pick a guy from a compatible system to do well right away or one that we would need a transition that could require adjustment and disappointment early for rewards down the road.

Fox has been an above average coach, but that's all. All the injury excuses and Delhomme excuses still come back to Fox. Excuses for the lameness of our offense cost Henning his job, but that's all on Fox. I wasn't sad to see Henning go, but not much has changed in terms of opening up the playbook. Then you have our DC who leaves for a lesser position with a different team.

With that said, I don't have any names in mind as who I want to see as a new head coach. Personnel-wise, we're obviously set up to run the ball a lot on offense. Putting a ton of points on the board would be nice, instead of playing not to lose and controlling the clock. Defensively, I'd like to see a 3-4.

So basically, I think we should hire Cowher as the HC, Gruden as the OC, Del Rio as the DC, and Kevin Greene for Special Teams.

Maybe while we're at it we can sign Peyton Manning, Andre Johnson, Jared Allen and LeBron James...

Cowher, Gruden and Del Rio will do all they can to each be head coaches, Gruden's not gonna settle for being #2 behind Cowher.
