If Fox is gone after '10...who do you want?

First and foremost, John Fox has been the best coach, so far, for the Panthers in regards to winning, regardless of the hatred for him on this forum. I wouldn't care if Fox stay so as long as these changes are for the good and the team remains strong. Furthermore, the player's opinions are much more important then ours and so far most of the players I have read love Fox.

That being said, if this is Fox's last reign as HC, then so be it, I am not going to sit here and beg the the organization to retain him because teams always need a fresh start and with this team going so young, it is perfect for a new head coach to grow chemistry with the players.

Now, I keep seeing Gruden's name being thrown out there but let me remind everyone that one reason why Gruden was fired was because he wasn't a player's coach. Not one single Buc liked Gruden and that alone is a reason that he shouldn't be Carolina's next coach.

Likely though, I see someone like Jeff Davidson or Ron Meeks staying and becoming HC. I know that many think that their success depends on Fox's success but remember that just because they are on the same team, doesn't mean they don't share the same philosophies, ultimately, its John Fox's team.

Outside of this organization, Richardson would most likely want to take a "Steelers" approach and go for a young, provened D-Coordinator or O-Coordinator. My choices would be Leslie Frazier (who worked under Tomlin at one point) or Sean McDermott (Eagles.) Also, keep an eye out on Brian Schottienhiemer(sp?) of the Jets.

Anyways, just my two cents.

This being the "up year" in the Fox era combined with an easier schedule we will have a winning season. Fox's stock will rise given the youth movement.

He will leave for greener pastures and there will be much gnashing of teeth when an assistant is promoted and The Chin stays retired. That is if there is football next year. Otherwise Jerry is crowned genius for saving head coach money and we still get the assistants.

A lot of people like to blame Fox but he hasn't exactly had an all star team. He is not that bad of coach at all. He has never had a franchise QB, ever. He has never had many key elements. People hate on him because they think that is his fault, when it really isn't. He said last year he needs the organization to give him to the tools to win, pretty clear to me. Other than cowher, I don't see anyone who is better. Also to be honest getting cowher in his place is about the same as having Fox, they are similar coaches. Yes he has won a super bowl...with a franchise QB, who has won 2 Super bowls and is only 27.

The panther's will probably promote Davis.

Good post, methodoll. The only retread I would consider is Bill Cowher. He would bring the take-no-prisoners attitude this team has lacked since the early Dom Caper days. However, as someone posted, the offensive philosophy probably won't change from the run-first, run-second, play-action pass offense we have now. The trade-off would be a nasty, hard-hitting, fierce defense that would be more fun to watch.

I agree that Richardson will probably go with an unproven coordinator to take over if this is indeed Fox's last hurrah. With that said, I totally agree that Brian Schottenheimer should get a long. The Jets led the league in rushing last year. And with the acquisition of LaDanian Tomlinson they will probably be among the leaders in rushing again this season. His offensive philosophy would be perfectly suited for Williams and Stewart, and I think he'd be less conservative and open up the passing game more. Of defensive-minded coaches out of the organization, Leslie Frazier would be my choice.

If we go in-house, either Davidson or Meeks would get consideration, and I'd lean more toward Meeks, as he has more experience and mentored under Tony Dungy for 8 years.

Awesome, another one of these.

We made it what, a week or so without this poo?

TC looming still isn't enough to detract from the same old worn out banter?

Agreed, can"t we wait until we are 0-6 before talking about a new coach.

Personally, I think Fox is a good coach and I don't think its his fault entirely that we haven't had the key players in place to be a consistent winner. We've never been in a position, until this year, to draft a true franchise QB. I'm sure most fans (myself included) are glad that the Panthers passed up on QBs i.e. Brady Quinn that many wrongly thought would be franchise QBs. Fortune finally looked our way when Clausen dropped in our laps, and I think in time he's going to make teams sorry they passed him up, irregardless of what the so-called experts say.

My problem with Fox has been his play-not-to lose conservative philosophy and unwillingness and/or inability to make in-game adjustments. These coaching flaws have cost us more than a few winnable games throughout his tenure here. Perhaps this had more to do with Delhomme's deteriorating skills (which were average to begin with) and the lack of a legitamate alternative WR threat to Steve Smith. If so, this has been the source of more debate - why did he make a commitment to Delhomme? Why wasn't the WR position addressed sooner? And with so much turnover on the roster, I'm not sure this will change this season, either.

I won't be too disappointed if Fox stays, especially if the Panthers have a great season, but it may just be time for a fresh start.
