It is an interesting mix these days. Fans who are just excited because it is football season, those who are happy with the changes because they didn't like our old team and figure this one has to be better, those who are happy with the changes and really do believe that we just upgraded, and those like me who believe we went young to save money regardless of the consequences short-term. Consequently I am not very excited about losing half of the team's leadership and I question how long it will take for us to actually gel and play well. Not so much in months but possibly years. All when such a radical approach was hardly necessary with at least plenty of opportunities to make decisions at the end of training camp instead of the middle of spring. Likely after Fox is gone. Unless, of course. we have a winning season...............

Think about that for a minute, if the coaches do a fantastic job and the players overachieve, it will be interesting to see what they will do with Fox. Maybe this won't be another Schottenheimer, doubt our record is anywhere close to 14-2, but if Fox has a winning season with this bunch of backups and draft picks, it will be hard to fire him. Frankly he would be a candidate for coach of the year in the NFL with no shortage of job offers. We could offer him an extension and he could decide to go elsewhere for more money and take his staff with him. To some's dismay and other's delight. Until they find out we aren't landing Cowher. But that is another tale for another time.

I'd call it a 2.5 game win streak, N.O. played with one hand tied behind their back.

Yeah, but the Panthers didn't exactly go all out that day either, so I call that one a wash. They played back ups too and and Fox was even more conservative than usual that day, because he didn't want to run up the score on the Saints back ups.

Anyway, I kind of like the position the Panthers are in. They did play well when MM took over (on both sides of the ball) and I like the fact that they are a young team with lots of position competition on both sides of the ball. You never know how a young player will shine when he knows he actually has a real opportunity, as opposed to being stuck behind a veteran starter.
