His strengths as a coach (calmness, loyalty and consistency) are also his largest hindrances. Firing Trgo won't change the defensive scheme. Firing Davidson will not change what we do in the 4th quarter. They are extensions of fox's philosophy and will stay as long as he's here.

....this is what I call foxology.

but you sir are a fricken poet and a brilliant mind, nice post.

I agree. The #1 thing though was the Bobby Cox reference.

I was actually going to title a thread that said John Fox=Bobby Cox.

But here is my thinking, Cox OVER coaches in the big game. Meaning, he gets too slick and smart for his own good.

Fox at least up until last night did well in the playoffs but he has a tendenacny to outsmart himself.

Look at Philly. They are not superior in talent HOWEVER they have done a great job at maximizing their talent. In football that's putting players in postion to win.

As stated, the lack of touches for SS. Moose going deep.

Instead of dumping the ball off in screens and rebuilding Jake's confidence they kept putting him on an island. Thus he kept throwing in double coverage.

This is why the West Coast offense is so good because it neutralizes the pass rush with short drops and it gets the WR running across the middle in between coverages.

But good assesment.

Good post. I will, however, give you a defensive lineman that was developed here...Kris Jenkins. He was promising as a rookie, dominant in his second season. Injured early in his third and never quite the same. And there are a couple of linemen who were developed enough here that they went on to do well in other places....Haye in Tampa and Brown in Tennessee.

What we witnessed this year could have been the beginning of another three year run or an anomaly. I think the 12-4 record will make Richardson give Fox the benefit of the doubt.

Let's hope the team doesn't do what it did in 2005...buy into that tempting "we're one or two players away" mentality and overspend in free agency.

It's time to push some old guys out and let the younger guys can do, the same way they did it with Foster this past year.

Loved the Bobby Cox comparison! As a life long Braves fan, I lose faith more and more every year (Cox era) with the Bravos. John Fox may know the game, be well liked in the locker room, and be a good guy...but he has no killer instinct. People hate Bill Belichick for a reason and like Fox for a reason.

This teams needs a Belichick.

That said, after going 12-5, Fox will remain for at least one more season. Davdison is safe seeing as how we put up a lot of points this year. Trgo...who knows. Fox is loyal. Tim Lewis may be done...but a new Secondary coach isn't any sort of an aswer.

As much as I love our Jerry...I'd like to see him get tough on the coaching staff, and he may very well have this summer with his meeting with Fox and Hurney. I don't want him to be an asshole like Jerry Jones...but I know he wants to win. Here's thing thing: his family friendly, southern hospitality atmosphere he wants for the organization and city...leaks into the coaching...and it's hurting us badly.

Bring in the Chin, let him have total control, and win Jerry a trophy.

As Ricky Bobby would say, That just happened! And there was no Tom Cruise witchcraft to save him.

Guys, the Chin is not coming to Charlotte anytime soon. Fox is safe for another couple years, and Cowher is clearly not interested in coaching right now. Just because everyone thinks it'll be convenient for him to coach the Panthers because he lives in Raleigh doesn't mean it'll happen.

However, this defensive lineup is almost the exact opposite of what Fox started with. The talent has swung dramatically towards the back 6/7. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Teams like the Eagles use talented secondary and quick linebackers to play tight defenses that allow the lines to get to the QB, in theory. The only problem is that Fox hasn't changed his play calling. It doesn't matter how good Chris Gamble is when we're calling coverages for Dante Wesley. You cannot call packages for Rucker and Jenkins when you have Brayton and Lewis.

It just doesn't make sense anyway you look at it, you are right. Fox just isn't running a good defense. It is a bend but don't break defensive philosophy but we are breaking and these long drives are terrible for our psyche.

I would say that if we could get some cohesion, we have close to as talented a secondary as the Eagles. Their defensive line is not one that gets a lot of sacks by itself, like ours.

Put a little trust in our corners and I think they play better. Putting them so far back only gives an advantage to the offense to throw underneath and run after the catch.

Fox is too deadset on not letting the offense dictate what we do, but we don't take it to the offense. We just sit and wait in the zones. The Eagles sold out against the Giants against the run and it worked so well, they put faith in the defensive backs and they came through.

Lucas, Gamble and Marshall are all aggressive corners, they aren't zone guys like the Colts use.
