Today's office debate: Best American band RIGHT NOW

You all have horrible taste, and no sort of ear for anything if you think BTBAM is loud all the time... It is pretty obvious you have heard a part or two like that and then shut it off, and missed out on all the rest of it...

NO OTHER BAND goes from metal, jazz, bluegrass, polka, etc. etc. etc. like they do, and still keep the originality and functionality of it...

you'll be hard pressed to find a more original, influential, and long lasting American band than The Flaming Lips. they've been putting out records for 30 years and will be in the list of influences for every creative band of the past few decades.

I have to agree... as long as we're talking about released work. I drove to Maine for a music festival they were headlining over the 4th of July weekend and was completely underwhelmed. Yeah, the music was good, but Wayne went all Eddie Vedder on everyone and preached more than he sang. My fiancee and I left the show (we could hear it throughout the venue/campgrounds) to walk around, check out vendors and wait for the late night music.

Live music influences much of my music selections... if a band can't perform their music, than what's the point?

    • Nailed it! Chiefs got #10 overall (and selected Mahomes) and sent the Bills #27, #91, and a 2018 first-rounder (ended up being #18) to pick the QB that has kept them out of the Super Bowl. 💀 Tbf to the Bills tho, they turned those picks into Tre'Davious White, Dion Dawkins, Tremaine Edmunds, and Siran Neal. Three out of four hits ain't bad at all, but that one for one for KC... ooh wee mayne.
    • Yep. Happens to a lot of talented kids. I just think a lot of people don't understand that just because this kid is super talented doesn't mean he's going to make it to the pros. Most of them won't. Some will get injured. Some will run into trouble off the court/field. Some won't put in the work. The catering greatly increases the odds of the latter two. Then most will simply just not be good enough to make it to the pros. Either way, it all adds up to a long shot and the kids need to have solid plan Bs. A few years back my HS had the #1 RB recruit on the nation. He originally committed to UGA but flipped to Bama and was getting decent playing time as a true freshman before obliterating his ankle. He was never the same again after that. Never made it to the pros. Not sure what happened to him but evidently he wasn't the brightest bulb and was basically just getting passed through school to stay academically eligible. I don't think he was a bad kid, never really heard anything like that. He just wasn't all that bright and all the eggs were in the football basket.
