So with the droid 1 that I have, I hear its infinitely easier to root and more customizable than Droid 2 or X. I might try it but I'm a little skeered about my warranty.

But for gods sake I want to get this facebook app the f*ck off of my phone.

if you root, will you be able to go from froyo to gingerbread when it comes out, or is the OS at the time of rooting then made permanent? is that why you waited for the update Jbro?

ordered mine yesterday. should have it in hand tomorrow afternoon according to fedex tracking info. talked to the salesman about rooting. i know. red flag raised right. i wanted to know about it though from someone other than questionable people on droid forums. he says one wrong move during the process, and you're screwed. it takes ~5 hrs also according to this guy. voids your warranty. allows you to hot spot for free which i already knew.

anybody done it? how hard was it if so?

It's easy as poo. He's BSing you. Not about the warranty, but that's just when you go and "lose" it if you do fug it up...which is next to impossible.
