MJ comments on Miami Big Three

Michael Jordan preferred to face off against superstars like Larry Bird -- not play alongside them.

"There's no way, with hindsight, I would've ever called up Larry, called up Magic and said, 'Hey, look, let's get together and play on one team,'" Jordan said after finishing tied for 22nd in the American Century Championship golf tournament in Stateline, Nev. "But that's ... things are different. I can't say that's a bad thing. It's an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys."

Lol, thats what TRUE champions say. They want to beat the best, not join them.......

D Wade had his own moronic comment this weekend as well.

"We're going to be wearing a bullseye. But that's what you play for," Wade said. "We enjoy the bullseye. Plus, there's going to be times when we lose 2-3 games in a row, and it seems like the world has crashed down. You all are going to make it seem like the World Trade is coming down again, but it's not going to be nothing but a couple basketball games.

Anyone who compares losing basketball games to 9/11 is ridiculous. I like D Wade but thats a terrible comparision imo, losing basketball games while getting paid hundreds of millions compared to 2,000 Americans being murdered????

This is what I've been talkin' about with Lebron. He DOSEN'T have that "killer, selfish, Imma prove im the best by goin' out and BEATING the best" mentality. Don't get me wrong, lebron is a good player. A pass to someone else willing to share the spotlight type guy, which is nice when you're on a team with other good players, but Jordan and Kobe have that "it" factor. That hunger that desire to be the best EVER!

If he wants championships then he's giving his self the best chance to do that, but he'll always be known as a good player on a great team and not a great player on a good team.

Kobe is licking his chops to beat this team!

Lebron couldn't face the challenge of bringing an NBA title to Cleveland. Apparently he never felt he could get it done.

The greatest of all time like Jordan and Kobe stick out good times and bad and face the challenge. I mention the two most prolific winners in recent history due to the ability of modern players to move around and to an extent control their own destinies, not in disrespect to past greats.

1 title in Cleveland or for that matter the state of Ohio would equal 7 (like Labron said they'd win) in Miami.

Yea yea.... Jordan never needed to call up Anyone because he had pippen and Grant, and then pippen and rodman.... And pippen was part of the dream team.... Bird had his trio, and magic had theirs.... it's not comparable because those guys were on teams 2 other all star talents or even hall of fame talent. It's not like they were are alone on their franchises.... so it's not the same. I really dislike when people keep making that comparison. I'm sure if Lebron had Deron Williams and Garnett or someone in Cleveland he would not have left.... same for Wade and Bosh.

For sure. He would have bolted town just like Ewing. Just like David Robinson. Just like Karl Malone. Just like Isaiah Thomas. Hakeem Olajuwon. Like Julius Erving. George Gervin. Just like anybody on the Top 50 greatest of all time list.

All those cats that ran for the ring and the chance to join up with the stars of the day for a quick ring.

Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley comment on them. Didn't see you include the Barkley quote

i know, but i figured everyone had already heard him talk. he commented the night this went down. i think this is the first time MJ has said anything about this

Karl Malone left Utah to join the Lakers to try to win a ring with Kobe, Shaq, and Gary Payton. No one remembers this because they didn't win.

That was at the very tail end of his career after spending most of his career trying to bring a ring to Utah.

The NBA is a different game now than when MJ played. There are a lot more high end, elite type players today IMO. For that reason, it takes a bit more to win a championship than it did before- like teaming up with an elite player SG and a good, all-star PF.
