Do we really want a true #1 WR?

Coming straight from Canales mouth we need someone that teams have to roll coverage towards so it opens up for other players. Take that as a No1 or whatever

Yeah, it is not just the weapon, it is the manipulation of the coverage to cover that weapon-fewer blitzes, rolled S--If you see that your #1 is in man coverage based on the S, for example, you go to the #1.  If he gets S help, someone else should be open.   We all know that. Considering our needs and considering Free Agency and the Draft, we might have to work XLs butt off and see if he can step up.  Not ideal, but the pressure will either make or break him.

In an unrelated note, it sure is quiet in Panther land.....perhaps too quiet.  I guess this means a few things:
1 We are going to let Mike Jackson enter free agency.

2. Nobody seems to be getting extended or re-signed for now.
3.  They need to know how far apart they are with Horn before free agency, imo.

I think if you're a dominant running the ball team, you need a #1 WR or another threat on offense. That's to stop defenses from keying in and keep them unbalanced.

It really comes down to the amount of quality ways you are able to get the ball to people who can move the chains, or better yet, become "playmakers".

I see it.  the run makes them step up, and there is no risk if we can't get behind them after forcing them into a false step.   Very logical

But to the Cowherd's point, you don't need the best WR as the teams that win in the playoffs don't have that (facts he listed). Yes to a fast guy who can catch to roll coverages, but to spend $30+ mil may not be worth it. A balance team that can run and pass, with a TE that can do both will be better every time.

We keep drafting speed and trying to make WRs out of them. I think we need WRs not just guys who do well at the underwear Olympics.

Leggette, Mingo and TMJ all play slow even with them actually testing faster in the 40. They have a type and it's not good. Good 40 times and they skip the cones and shuttle. They aren't football fast, they are 40 fast. Add in they all are projects needing serious work to be more than a school level WR.

If they actually did the drills their stock would have dropped because they all have poorer agility and acceleration. It's like the team is allergic to a well rounded WR early since Moore.

Pretty much. Good size, good 40, seemingly everything else optional.
