Inception talk - Spoilers inside - Do not read if you have not seen...

Something that I feel like no one is talking about that plays an integral role is the machine. The brief case that they all hook up to. Obviously nothing would be possible without this.

What we know: You cannot share dreams unless all parties are hooked up to this thing. It administers a "compound" which may or may not contain some level of sedatives. Other than that there is no explanation of the compounds or machine. There is also a timer function, this timer is the sure-fire way of waking someone up. When the timer runs out, you wake up, end of story. Right?

Why do they use the machine inside of dreams? To me it seems they only need it in the real world, but they use it in the van to get to the hotel, and then use it in the hotel to get to the snow world. But Saito, Scarecrow, Leo, and Juno are all able to meet up in the limbo level without being connected to a machine. This makes me think that the machines used in all the previous levels are unnecessary.

I'd really like to know more about the machine and compounds and how they work.

Well how else would they get to other levels in the dream?? It seems like it shouldn't work, but there really is no other way to hit the 2nd or 3rd levels in the dream without the machine.

As for limbo, Fischer and Saito died, so they got sent to limbo. I can't remember how Ariadne and Leo got sent to limbo, but they didn't need to be connected to the machine to go there.

In that case, shouldn't they have all been sent to independent limbos and not the collective one that they were sent to. Limbo is not a place, it doesn't exist independently outside of an individuals subconscious. So if they can all go to the same limbo without a machine, they should be able to go to deeper levels of the dream without one.

Maybe it's just a placebo to make them all "go to sleep" and enter the new level together?

they explained at one point that limbo is nothingness. unless you go there with someone who has been there before. then it's populated with what they built when they were there.

    • I’m sure current Dan Morgan would be an instant upgrade.
    • It’s not his fault because he’s got a southern accent and he’s tall. Ask any NFL talent evaluator worth his salt and he’ll tell you those are the two most vital metrics for a WR. This effort, rote running, catching, bullshit is meaningless. And he doesn’t drop passes anyway. Young either throws them too hard or too soft. T-Mac didn’t play any better than XL Sunday, anyway, which is proof it’s not XL’s fault.
    • Wow. Much great thread. Very informative. Would read again.
