I think Nolan set it up perfectly just so there would be an infinite amount of theories. People are gonna believe what they want. Some will think the whole thing was a dream, some will think it happened as Cobbs think it happened, etc. It's all down to what the viewer wants to believe. It's like we're creating the dream (the movie) like we want it to, which is what makes the whole concept of the movie so brilliant.

Elevator explosion, van crashing into water. Those two took them back to reality.

The defillibrator was the lower level kick AFTER Robert(Cillian) was kicked off the balcony(The lowest, or first kick). Remember how the falling techinique was put into place?

-kick 4, out of 1st dream, vertigo from van crashing off bridge, did not work.

-kick 5, splash in the water. everyone swam out of the van to the shore instead of waking up. they were sitting on shore. then later they woke up on the plane without showing any other kick. how did they get from the shore of the river?

Kicks aren't always necessary, being that they were only in the first level the sedative most likely wore off. Though how Saito and Cobb were able to get out is beyond me.

And wasn't water what was Leo's default kicker?

He fell back into the water in he beginning, which may have caused the kick.

But since the sedative was JUST to get them dreaming in the first dream level, would death in the other levels be okay?? For example, say Leo died in the snow place. Wouldn't that just send him back to the hotel?? So, in theory, it's okay to die without a kick in any level except the first.

Dying was cool UNLESS you were in limbo. That is where you had to come back to the next level via a kick.

normally. but with the sedatives, they were sent to limbo if they died anywhere. that's why Saito went to limbo when he died in the 3rd level.

Saito died in the 3rd level. he was sent to limbo.

Well yes I realize that they killed themselves, but does that mean if you kill yourself while in limbo you will go directly to waking up? I'm inclined to believe that because when Cobb and Mal were stuck in Limbo the only way out for them was to have the train run them over.

I'm not sure it matters how you kill yourself, what matters is realizing that it isn't real, and that you DO kill yourself so that you wake up.

Well what I am saying is that they wouldn't let Tom Hardy kill Saito in the first level, stating that if they did that he would wake up and his brain would pretty much be scrambled. I don't know, it's confusing, I still need to see it again.

No, he'd go to limbo or whatever it was called. And then he might never wake up. If he did, his brain would be mush from lack of use for years and years.

Also I thought it was interesting how much he had aged when Cobb found him, even though he had only been dead in the 3rd level for a few minutes. Must have been decades that far deep.
