He is not a shut down corner, but when teams play against the Panthers they plan routes around him. Gamble does have the ability to be a shut down corner though and has shown that ability time after time. However, he doesn't do it on a regular basis as Revis does. Nonetheless, here are some specific examples from last year.

Specific Examples (Receivers held under 50 yards)

@ Philadelphia: Gamble held DeSean Jackson to 2 catches for 9 yards.

@ Dallas: Gamble held Miles Austin to 0 catches for 0 yards

vs. Washington: Gamble held Santana Moss to 4 catches for 44 yards.

@ Tampa Bay: Gamble held Antonio Bryant to 2 catches for 37 yards.

vs. Buffalo: Gamble held Terrell Owens to 3 catches for 27 yards.

@ NY Jets: Gamble held Braylon Edwards to 3 catches for 40 yards.

@ New England: Gamble held Randy Moss to 1 catch for 14 yards.

vs. New Orleans: Gamble held Robert Meachem to 2 catches for 12 yards.

So it is clear that Gamble does indeed have the ability to be a shut down corner, however he only showed it 50% of the time last year. If he can put up these stats 75%-100% of the time next year than I think people will start talking about Gamble like they talk about Revis, Woodson, and Asomugha.

He's a decent corner, top 10-15 talent imo.

I really dont think he fits the scheme we run and would be better in a man to man system like he was the first two years he played for us. With that said he is a above avg CB in the cover 2 system.

Being a shutdown corner is one of the hardest things to do in the NFL. In this day and age it's getting even harder. Gamble probably won't reach that peak.

It's like being a QB who can make all the throws, has a genius mind for football, and is a phenomenal leader. You only get a few of those at a time.

Every single part of your game has to be spectacular for an OC to say "Nah let's just give up I'm not going over there". They also have to be ready for the OC's who spend nights trying to beat them.

CB is one of the hardest positions to play, Gamble is above average. Not quite worth his pay but at least he is consistent and reliable. He is still young 26,27 I think? So maybe time will tell more.

He had a lot of interceptions early in his career but he had a bad habit of going for the interception instead of the tackle and got burned a lot too. He was highly criticized for it and there were many "Gamble likes to gamble" type jokes thrown around. Now he has less interceptions but gets burned a lot less. I think it was an improvement.

Funny that some say he isn't worth his contract.

The Panthers could not replace him with a vet of his ability for the money they are paying Gamble.

Think before you open mouth and insert foot.

Gamble is the best corner we have, and he is worth his contract, as dictated by the FA market.

as evidenced by what? I don't think robinson's a bad player but I always thought he was overrated.
