They don't really have anything job-wise that I really give a **** about, and I don't want to serve..just to serve, although it would look good years down the line when I'm running for public office.

Why do you want to run for public office? If you can answer that, maybe you can figure out what to do until then.

My bro's done alright he says there's a decent amount of liberals in the military but it's kind of a closet thing. For some reason I've talked to way more liberals in the Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard. Army and Marines seem to be pretty conservative.

That's because their ASVAB and HS diploma requirements are less strict.

On my sub we had more than our share of die hard commie killers, but on the whole most of us were reasonable people who actually understood that the idea was not to shoot off the missles we had in the silos.

The whole time I was in the Navy I met 3 guys that didn't have their HS diploma. One of them was a good friend of mine. The only reason he got in without the diploma was he scored a 92 on the ASVAB. Even then the only jobs they offered him were the poo jobs.

I was in Pensacola for 4 months for A-school and must have met about 40 Marines who never graduated.

I'd say 60/40 would be the Navy and Air force, but the Marines and Army has to be higher. Of course I've been out for 15 years. I know they were softening standards when I was going through boot camp. Company Commanders (CCs) were no longer allowed to touch a recruit which was relatively new. Not long after that I heard you could actually take up a greivance if you thought you were being treated harshly or unfairly.

Softening has nothing to do with it. African American's make up about 30% of the Army, and they are probably 80% democrat. And the majority of Hispanics tend to be democrat as well. The majority of whites in the army tend to be republican or conservative. Thats why I said about 60/40.
