Bradshaw rips Clausen's throwing

He still had his fair share of targets to hit though.

TE- Larry Brown- 1X Pro Bowler

WR- Frank Lewis- 1X Pro Bowler

WR- Ronnie Shanklin- 1X Pro Bowler

WR- Lynn Swann- 3X Pro Bowler (Hall of Famer)

WR- John Stallworth- 4X Pro Bowler (Hall of Famer

I am not taking anything away from Bradshaw, but if you gave almost any quarterback these types of targets to throw to, they should be able to win at least one super bowl.

gthat is back when the pro bowl meant something too

Truth is those teams also had a great defense as well. Add Franco Harris and Rocky Blier to your list as well which defintely helped the passing game.

Again I would agree that he wasn't that physically talented or had to do it all by himself. He had plenty of help. He would be average in today's game much like a lot of quarterbacks of his era. That is why it is hard to compare athletes from one era to another.

Poor Jimmy.

Everyone's a critic, it seems.

He's just one of those players that is a lightening rod, either love him or hate him and nothing in between

All I know, and I watched every ND game he played, he gave his team a chance to win every game, he played tough, he played hurt, he played smart. He made the throws he had to make when he had to make them, with a O line that wasn't great and a running game that was spotty. He played under the pressure of playing for the Irish.

As for ego, I haven't known of too many QBs that didn't have one, of course, I'm tainted by having the unfortunate privilege of living in DC whe Theisman played for the Redskins.

I think, as one poster did, it would be very interesting to go back and see all the comments Bradshaw has had over the past, oh 15 years, on drafted QBs.

He's free to have his opinion, but, that's all it is.

Jimmy Clausen does have a "tell" in his delivery. I don't know if they'll be able to work it out or not but there is a rocking motion before the ball comes out on most of his throws. With a lot of QB, it's a really short back foot to front foot weight transfer but with Clausen and especially on deep throws, it's pretty pronounced.

On timing routes, that could be a problem. Three step drops. One Two Three Out. That timing is a big deal because those are precision throws. That rock in his delivery could tip off a safety where that ball is headed.

As soon as you lock on, there has to be a short shuffle step transfer and the ball has to come out when the weight hits the front foot. Not "monster step, back foot transfer, arm goes back, front foot transfer, arm goes forward". It has to be quicker at the NFL level. Too much load on those intermediate throws.

But these problems are all footwork problems. Those are pretty easy to fix, honestly. I don't see the problem in his upper body. The ball comes out pretty quickly up top, the arm action and arm angle are good, and the velocity is strong.

He has no room to talk, for being known as Mr. Steel Arm his TD-INT ratio was far from impressive.

212-210, yeah thats the sign of a great quarterback.

Hey Terry, your TD-INT ratio is worse than Tommy Jone's. How does that make you feel?

So, who gives a flying f**k about TD and Ints ratio, he's a winner, when he needed to make a clutch play he did it, please, you would be lying if you didnt want a terry bradshaw playoff type quarterback on your team.

I guess your like the Colts then, All they cared about this past decade was "most regular season wins" nobody gives a poo about that, that's the problem with the colts and their choking organisation.

whilst they cater for them to be the best regular season teams, there one of the worst playoff teams for best teams.

this thread (should have) ended the second his quote on Jamarcus Russel was posted.

If being wrong once precluded you from an opinion, there would be nobody entitled to having one. I would say that a success rate of even 50% on drafted QB would be a good one.

There is nothing wrong with Clausen's deep ball, actually it was the best deep ball in the country last year. Clausen's deep ball is the best part of his game, Ive never seen a QB throw the fade pattern better than Clausen other than Peyton. The turf toe hindered his ability to fully step into his throws, using mostly upper body strength to throw it deep, which made it occasionally float and was still pretty accurate. He averaged 8.8 ypc his JR year, only QB to have a higher ypc in the last decade was Stafford with 9.0. The guy had 28 TDs and only 4 INts with ND throwing deep 5+ times a game. BTW, Terry, how many big games did Stafford win at UGA? I cant seem to recall anyone but one. It was the Sugar Bowl right? Against who? Hawaii, the same team ND beat in a bowl game two years ago in a different bowl game.
