Beason confirms move to the weakside...

...and Beason played safety before he played LB, not at the level Davis did, but he had enough speed to be considered a safety at one time. Beason says Davis is the biggest athletic freak on the team now that Peppers is gone. Beason is not as fast as Davis, so Davis is more ideally suited towards WLB than Beason, but Beason is fast enough to be effective at WLB.

Anyone doubting the significance of the WLB postion in our defense should ask themselves why Davis was leading the team in tackles by a good margin prior to his injury.

Meh in High School the NFL caliber guys are so good they play everywhere. They're head and shoulders above everybody else. You could take an All American DT and put him at WR, he would play better than 50% of the country.

Jake Delhome had a game in High School where he played QB, CB, and K and made an impact at each position. I'm not joking I'm sure the article is out there somewhere.

Living in New Jersey and being a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte I do not reall have a college football team to follow. So the teams I watch the most are Penn State and Rutgers. I do agree that Beason should play WLB in this system because it is the most important, but what scares me the most is Dan Connor. This guy couldnt even cover his kids underneath the blanket at night. We will be ripped to shreds over the middle on short passes. Historically the Panthers give up a lot over the middle and Dan Connor will not be preventing that.

Glad ya spoke up! After all, being one of the best linebackers to come out of penn state, a linebacker factory, means connor must be a terrible linebacker.

Seriously, conner was one of the top lb to come out that year. He is, without a doubt, best suited for the mlb. He is a smart, tough, intelligent football player. He's been groomed, and been working on improving his pass coverage. The kid. Is going to make an impact on our defense, and all most of you are saying, is put anyone else in but connor.

I don't get it either. Granted, we haven't seen him play a whole lot, but he seems about as good a backup linebacker as you could expect. I won't be worried if that's the direction they intend to go.

Who knows what will happen. Hopefully Bears fans aren't lying and Jamar Williams is truly starting quality so he could start at WLB.

This.

I want Beason to stay in the middle, and Jamar and Anderson to man the other LB spots. I feel like that would put our 3 best LB's on the field.

I think Connor would get picked on outside but he'll be fine in the middle. We don't run a Tampa 2 needing him to go out and cover the deep middle. He'll be fine in the middle. I don't if he can last long at MLB in a 4-3, he'll probably finish his career as a ILB in a 3-4 but he'll be fine here.

Depends on the high school, but what you say is mostly true although I would guess the level of competition at Jake's high school was much lower than a high school in the burbs of Miami.

yeah that's true. Still how many guys play in the NFL, and how many guys play high school football? They're gods among teenage boys.

I understand the apprehension in moving Beason, but I think it's the best thing the Panthers can do with Thomas Davis out. I haven't seen Jamar Williams play, but it seems like a lot of people like him cause he got a million tackles in that 1 game he started last year. That 1 game against the Rams. That 1 game against the Rams, with Kyle Boller at QB. Steven Jackson still got over 100 yards rushing in that game.

I may be a Penn State homer, but I'm not worried about Dan Connor playing in the middle. He's the same caliber player as Posluszny and Laurinaitis; they both cracked 100+ tackles in a season in the NFL. Not to mention, Connor sacked Clausen in college.
