Beason confirms move to the weakside...

Because a Meeks defense needs the WLB to be the best athlete on the defense and he clearly is. He might be the best WLB in football this year. They thought about making the move last year but didn't want to change horses in the middle of the stream. Whose defense was better last year? Carolina's or New Orleans?? Whose staff is great then??

Your talent level on defense last year was significantly better than our's, especially up front. You had an elite DE, two elite LBs, and a servicable rotation of DLmen. We have four above average players up front and a lot of average/scrubs. Williams made chicken salad out of chicken crap, Meeks did well with a talented front 7.

the will is a damn big deal in meek's scheme

Personally, I think that moving Beason to WLB is a little stupid. He is a top 3 talent at MLB.

However, in the system Meeks likes to run WLB is your playmaker. He is they guy that gets poo done and disrupts plays. He also has a whole lot more free-will in pass coverage than the SAM and Mike. Beason is easily our best coverage LB.

Derrick Brooks became a house-hold name from this position in what was pretty much the same D.

Mostly though you want to get your best players on the field at the best positions. If Beason at will, Connor at mike, and Anderson/Williams at sam is our best LB set-up then I am all for it. If our best corps is with Beason in the middle then I am sure that he will stay there and they will position the other pieces into place.

What is the use of keeping Beason at mike if you are weakening the LB corps to do it? Connor SEEMS to be a pretty good football player, I'd like to see him get his shot, if he earns it.

Your defensive front was better than ours. Smith had 13 sacks to Peppers 10.5 for example. Grant has as many as Brayton and so forth. What about Sedrick Ellis who was supposed to be the answer? With all the injuries at DT we had, it was a revolving door. There was no way our front 4 were better than yours.

Vilma was supposed to be answer at MLB. And I would think that your linebackers were as good as Diggs and Anderson once Davis went down for the year. And all I heard was how your secondary was better than ours. Maybe our talent was better before the season started, but we were hit with as many injuries as you were and several of ours were season ending.

Seems to me the talent level was similar but Williams obsession with gambling and being aggressive at the expense of being fundamentally sound made your team susceptible to the big play. You might love Williams but for my money, Meeks is a better DC.

I don't remember there ever being any real talk about moving Beason last year.

It was mostly just a rumor. However, 12% of rumors turn out to be true and 100% of those rumors that turned out to be the truth are the truth. So that makes it pretty much 100% true that it was discussed by Fox and his coaches.

When it came out in OTAs that they tried him at WLB, it was discussed that they considered it last year when Davis went down. It wasn't discussed last year since they didn't decide to do it.

If I remember correctly I believe Gantt said it in one of his articles.
