The Miami Dolphins have announced today the retirement of defensive tackle Jason Ferguson.

A veteran of 13 NFL seasons, Ferguson spent the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins. During his career he played in 159 games, including 128 starts for the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins.

“You get what you put into this game. I would like to thank my family, the fans and the organizations that I have been a part of for their continued support throughout my career, it’s been an absolute blessing to play this long,” explained Ferguson. “I have built a lot of relationships, you develop an extended family playing this game; I would like to thank that extended family, the teammates, the coaches, the support staffs that have all played a part of a great ride.”

"Jason was a key contributor on three different teams for many years at one of the NFL’s toughest jobs,” stated Dolphins Executive Vice President of Football Operations Bill Parcells. “I am grateful and I will miss him.”

"I want to wish Jason well in his retirement,” said Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano. “He had a great career in the league and was professional in everything he did. I appreciate all he did for the Dolphins in his two years in Miami, and his leadership will be missed."

Ferguson was originally a seventh round selection (229th overall) of the New York Jets in 1997 out of the University of Georgia. He went on to play eight seasons for the Jets before signing with the Dallas Cowboys as an unrestricted free agent in 2005. He was acquired by the Dolphins in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys which also included the exchanging of sixth-round draft choices on February 9, 2008. During his 13 year career, he recorded 569 tackles, 21.5 sacks, 12 passes defensed, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

    • Probably so in the big picture.  The 2025 class has largely already been recruited though.  The portal is what it is.   Bill going to need time to find the kids that will be what he wants and that will put up with his world/ways.   i just think the auto contender next year stuff is silly.  I’m largely just needling and addressing the timetable Whoa put out there.  He needs time.

    • This is dumb, but not as dumb as declining a massive trade for Brian Burns. It’s completely baffling and embarrassing.
