Panthers Prospect Visits/Meetings

I really hope it works out whoever we draft but IMO Stewart's bust factor is off the charts. Checks every measurement box twice and yet completely lacks production. It's such a a massive red flag.

He has good tape and is built like a top of draft DL, but he’s not an elite talent — he just doesn’t close out plays.

His pressure to sack conversion is baffling. I mean, he creates havoc but can’t lock it up. Still, prefer him way more than the other rumored apple of our eye in Mykel.

If it’s me, I’m leaning Warren, McMillan, Johnson, Walker…but I dunno. It just feels like Stewart. I’m basically telling myself it so much so that I’m either pleasantly surprised or taking it as expected.

The terrifying thing about us drafting an athletic phenom that needs significant development is that it begs the question, how many of our draft picks ever actually develop? Seems like most of our guys are as good as they're going to get on the day we draft them. Hopefully this new staff can reverse that trend but it just seems like we've been drafting highly talented developmental prospects for years now and then completely fail to develop them.

For people that are saying Shemar Stewart is not an elite talent, I think you are confusing talent with production. Shemar is 100% an elite talent. The draft is when you look at a guy like this and predict what he can be in the NFL. He is already a fantastic player against the run, has a RIDICULOUS motor, and elite traits.

There is a reason why Travon Walker went ahead of Aiden Hutchinson in the draft. Projection. Both could be very good players, but which player, if he puts it all together, will be a game changer?

Not only do I think he will go top 10, he might even go ahead of our pick.

P.S. He doesn't even turn 22 until November.

Greg Cosell was on Ross Tucker podcast and said Shemar Stewart was a wonderful athlete and a very talented player...however he currently has no idea how to pass rush and his film tape is average.

I don't know man. I watched them play Texas and Nick Scourton looked like the better player. He made a couple of plays, but he really didn't stand out as a pass rusher.

All you have to do is look at his stat sheet. I'm sorry, someone with his measurables should have a lot more than 4.5 career sacks simply from being on the field. Players make plays. Workout warriors show out at the Combine and leave everyone scratching their heads why they didn't perform better and drooling over "potential". Not every athlete is a football player.

Maybe the guy will be great, we'll see. All I'm saying is that drafting workout warriors in the top 10 is risky as hell.

I would argue it's significantly below average.

Al Davis special.

Not only is it perplexing that he only had 4.5 career sacks, he was an elite talent on teams stocked with elite talent. How much more of a stacked deck do you really need to perform well?

Elite play is just not there yet.  Elite frame, yes.  Elite metrics, yes.  Elite potential, yes.  And he honestly does have really strong tape to show.

And like I said, he's a great watch.  I actually quite like him.  For not getting a lot of production, he is a noticeable force.  But if you're living at the edge (and sometimes sliding inside/hands in the dirt), you need to be able to convert the chances you have into gains for the defense.  He has yet to actualize, but the ability is there.

But if we're talking at 8 overall in the draft, I'm not taking that chance considering who else could be available. You need someone who's coming in and making the opposing side change the way they play you.  I don't see that (yet)...and I don't like that gamble, that high.

Oh I didn't mean we should gamble on him. Just that someone will. Players like him scare me. Especially 1st round and even worse in the top 10

    • Possibly so but that doesn't really change what I said.
    • Per Mike Kaye: Here are the Panthers’ biggest remaining needs as the team enters free agency: Safety: The Panthers have just two players at the position entering the middle of the week: Moehrig and second-year DB Demani Richardson. While Moehrig, based on his contract, is the crown jewel of the Panthers’ free-agent haul, Richardson is still a bit of a mystery. At best, the Panthers need at least three more players at safety, with at least one of them being good enough to compete with Richardson for a starting job. It’s pretty likely the Panthers add another external free agent at the position before the NFL Draft. Outside linebacker: The Panthers brought in Jones to raise the oor of the depth chart on the edge. Jones, D.J. Wonnum and Jadeveon Clowney are currently the Carolina Panthers wide receiver Adam Thielen (19) celebrates after scoring a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the rst quarter at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fl. on Sunday Dec 29, 2024 Nathan Ray Seebeck Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images top three players on the depth chart. From there, the unit has D.J. Johnson and not much else. And one could argue that Johnson will need to have a very strong summer to stick around for a third year. The Panthers need to get better here, whether in free agency or the draft. Running back: Carolina cut veteran running back Miles Sanders on Tuesday. While Sanders was a disappointment during his two years in Charlotte, his release leaves the depth chart pretty light behind Chuba Hubbard. The Panthers only have Hubbard, Jonathon Brooks (coming o a second ACL surgery in as many oseasons) and Emani Bailey on the depth chart. There are plenty of options available in free agency at the running back position. Wide receiver: The Panthers like the trio of Adam Thielen, Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker, but they simply aren’t good enough to contend as a starting group. The Panthers need to raise the ceiling and the oor at the position, similar to the way they double dipped on defensive linemen on Monday. The options were somewhat limited in free agency at the position, but Carolina might have some hope coming in the draft or the trade market down the line. Tight end: While Tremble is back in the mix, the Panthers have him, Ja’Tavion Sanders and Jordan Matthews as players of note at the position. Matthews, by the way, hasn’t caught a regular-season pass in several years. So, the Panthers might want to look at the free-agent or trade markets to add depth before the draft. That said, the rookie class at tight end is considered to be major strength of the incoming NFL talent. Cornerback: Jackson and Jaycee Horn make up a strong pair of starters for the secondary. However, the nickel position is a bit of a mystery with second-year DB Chau Smith-Wade currently penciled into it. The rest of the group is lled with unknowns, and the Panthers could aord to bring in a proven commodity on a one-year deal to expand the experience in the room. Insurance, especially with Horn, is necessary Inside linebacker: There isn’t much to write home about behind starters Josey Jewell and Trevin Wallace. Claudin Cherelus, last year’s third inside linebacker for much of the season, is coming o toe surgery. Special teams ace Jon Rhattigan, while strong in his role, was rarely used on defense last year. Upgrades are necessary at this position, whether in the draft or in free agency. (Update: The Panthers agreed to terms with LB Christian Rozeboom on Wednesday.) Kicker: The team signed Matthew Wright to compete this summer. But with Eddy Piñeiro likely headed elsewhere, the Panthers need to push Wright with a talented specialist. Kick/punt returner
