The terrifying thing about us drafting an athletic phenom that needs significant development is that it begs the question, how many of our draft picks ever actually develop? Seems like most of our guys are as good as they're going to get on the day we draft them. Hopefully this new staff can reverse that trend but it just seems like we've been drafting highly talented developmental prospects for years now and then completely fail to develop them.

For people that are saying Shemar Stewart is not an elite talent, I think you are confusing talent with production. Shemar is 100% an elite talent. The draft is when you look at a guy like this and predict what he can be in the NFL. He is already a fantastic player against the run, has a RIDICULOUS motor, and elite traits. 

There is a reason why Travon Walker went ahead of Aiden Hutchinson in the draft. Projection. Both could be very good players, but which player, if he puts it all together, will be a game changer?

Not only do I think he will go top 10, he might even go ahead of our pick.

P.S. He doesn't even turn 22 until November.

Greg Cosell was on Ross Tucker podcast and said Shemar Stewart was a wonderful athlete and a very talented player...however he currently has no idea how to pass rush and his film tape is average.

I don't know man. I watched them play Texas and Nick Scourton looked like the better player. He made a couple of plays, but he really didn't stand out as a pass rusher.

All you have to do is look at his stat sheet. I'm sorry, someone with his measurables should have a lot more than 4.5 career sacks simply from being on the field. Players make plays. Workout warriors show out at the Combine and leave everyone scratching their heads why they didn't perform better and drooling over "potential". Not every athlete is a football player.

Maybe the guy will be great, we'll see. All I'm saying is that drafting workout warriors in the top 10 is risky as hell.

I would argue it's significantly below average.

Not only is it perplexing that he only had 4.5 career sacks, he was an elite talent on teams stocked with elite talent. How much more of a stacked deck do you really need to perform well?

Walker would be a great fit as a 3-4 NT/DE. I hope we can snag him with our late 2nd rounder.

Elite play is just not there yet.  Elite frame, yes.  Elite metrics, yes.  Elite potential, yes.  And he honestly does have really strong tape to show.

And like I said, he's a great watch.  I actually quite like him.  For not getting a lot of production, he is a noticeable force.  But if you're living at the edge (and sometimes sliding inside/hands in the dirt), you need to be able to convert the chances you have into gains for the defense.  He has yet to actualize, but the ability is there.  

But if we're talking at 8 overall in the draft, I'm not taking that chance considering who else could be available. You need someone who's coming in and making the opposing side change the way they play you.  I don't see that (yet)...and I don't like that gamble, that high.

Oh I didn't mean we should gamble on him. Just that someone will. Players like him scare me. Especially 1st round and even worse in the top 10
