Fox Sports analyst says don't sleep on the Panthers

Technically, it was 2009.

Too many people are picking Atlanta or Saints, so the only options for our division is us or TB. Not a hard choice there.

Well then by that logic the Saints were the 2010 champs, not 2009.

What I hope and hang my hat on for a good 2010 season is the Delhomme effect. He was so absolutely brutal last season with the turnovers, overthrows, underthrow, etc that the Panthers could be better just by having a better QB despite all the other issues with the team because the QB play was so brutal last season.

Controlling the clock matters little when a team like the Saints can score on you in 3 plays. We are going to have to put up points to win this season.

Yeah, we can control the clock. The problem is we start controlling the clock with a field goal lead or sometimes even tied lol. :\

As said above when teams like the Saints/Falcons/pretty much ANY team(including us!) can score in a matter of seconds you can't play like that unless you have a comfortable lead.

Hey, boys!! :nono: If you don't believe our defense willl stop the other teams from scoring on big plays, then we are doomed and it truly will be the bottom of the pile for us.

BTW ... when does "controlling the clock" automatically translate to "conservative play"? Not in my world.

Optimist that I am ............................

Controlling the clock doesn't equal being conservative.

I never said we COULDN'T stop them. The thing is teams like the Saints and others with insane offenses have beaten even the best defenses.

I also understand controlling the clock doesn't mean you're being conservative, but in Fox's case it does. Even up one score you'd see them shift into that "just try not to lose" playstyle and give up leads.

But, as all you guys now...ball control was the saints weakness last year. If we didn't have jake delhomme we more than likely win that game in NO. Jake couldn't stretch the field, so they started to stack the box in the second half, when they came back. Not to mention the three costly fumbles we had as a team. Im truely an optimist though.

Exactly... Which is why I mentioned our focus on the WR position through the draft with LaFell, Edwards, and Gettis... That's a lot of speed and strength between them. We did it for a reason - I think this offense will be much more explosive this season than we've seen in awhile. Potentially...

If our passing game can catch up to where our running game is, F New Orleans, we'll be scoring whenever we want. And Moore did a great job with a WR corps that Jake couldn't do anything with... We'll see what happens.

sure, we COULD have a good season but we have many question marks and would have to hit on all of them. that decreases our chances.

the main ones are of course, is moore for real and if not can clausen or cantwell play at a high level? can our rookies step up to be legit #2 and #3 WR's, both as rookies? jarett who? will he show up this year? can a no name makshift DL play at a high level ALLLLLLL season?

i say we are better than OK at QB and have no real worries thaT one of these guys can complement a strong running game.

i fear our DL lasting all season and think it will result in LB injuries and our defense will be depleted before season's end.

we have tremendous potential at WR but asking not one but two rookies, plus jarrett who is barely more than a rookie, to step up is a lot to ask.

a minor questionmark that many are overlooking is our kicking game. we know kasey can't kick off. where will our defense be starting drives? inside the 20 or outside the 30?

lots of question marks. the biggest is the DL. if they can't stop drives they put more pressure on the QB and offense to score more taking us out of the running game and putting more pressure on whomever is under center. the DL will set the tone for the whole season.

I'm not worried. The 2010 Panthers have the potential to be the best Panther team ever. It's not like a lot of the young guys taking over have never stepped foot on a field. They have at least some experience. They're a big(not the biggest) reason why we went 8-8 last season, with one of the hardest schedules and Delhomme trying to see how many games he can throw away.
