Darin Gantt and Armanti Edwards

Here's a crazy idea. If you don't like Gantt, then don't read his column. It's not like he's downloading his stuff directly into your brain or anything.

Try this one on for size...name another Panthers beat writer other than Steve Reed. Chandler left. Scott doesn't do it. So what other options are there, if I want to see what's going on in minicamp or OTAs other than here?

I can assure you that Reed, the guys at Panthers.com, along with multiple other outlets, will write virtually the same articles that Gantt will write. The tone and opinions (if included) may change slightly, and they will probably be posted on different days, but the factual information, as well as quotes from players and coaches, will be exactly the same.

If you want something different, just read what our own fans have to say about TC, because that's about the only way you're gonna get it.

Here is a crazy idea--stick to the topic. It was not about disliking Gantt, it was about his homerism. We have a limited supply of outlets for Panthers news. I read them all. I already said that he is a nice guy and usually one of the best writers. Do I need to repeat that three times? If you think that is how you deal with things you don't like reading, then why complain about this? You saw the thread title, read posts that were consistent with the title, and then you bitch about people you read about who a re bitching about what they read. Right. Crazy idea.

How many times do you have to mention his school?

second paragraph : "Edwards, the Panthers' third-round pick out of Appalachian State..."

fourth paragraph: "The converted quarterback from Appalachian State..."

fifth (and final) paragraph: "A four-year starter at Appalachian State, Edwards...."

That is not fine, that is homeristic and pathetic journalism. He is name dropping his alma mater like a politician who is behind in the poles gives out bumper stickers.

from panthers.com:

http://www.panthers.com/news/article-1/WR-Edwards-signed/59f8a7ee-8335-42d6-8da2-c850229710bf

first paragraph: "The Panthers have downloaded a new app, signing third-round draft choice (89th overall) Armanti Edwards from Appalachian State"

second paragraph: "Edwards, 5-foot-11 and 182 pounds, played in 51 games with 49 starts at Appalachian State and compiled a 42-7 record as the team's starting quarterback"

fifth paragraph: "While making many plays with his arm, Edwards also made many plays with his legs. He twice led Appalachian State in rushing – ranking first on the team with 1,588 yards as a sophomore and 941 yards as a junior"

Everybody is doing it.

Here is a crazy idea, how about moving on. You have said essentially the same thing in post after post through out the thread.

First of all he admits he is a homer about App State and Edwards so what is your point? He shouldn't be? He knows that which is why he apologizes for being one.

We get it. You think he is a homer. He admits it.

All you are doing is:

Cool. By all means, keep reading what you want to read, and continue to express your dislike for Gantt's homerism. I was just offering a solution to what, apparently, is a major source of pain and discomfort for some people.

USA Today mentions Notre Dame 6 times in this article, can you BELIEVE that 6 (SIX) TIMES. This is really lazy journalism, I mean is this written for the mentally disabled...as if we would forget where Jimmy Clausen went to school, or where he threw TD completions. This crap makes me sick, buncha homers. They also mentions some team called the panthers like 10 times...wtf is that crap.

I mean seriously...this is what your bitching about? Hey I got an idea...if you don't want to read about Gantt writing about Edwards...how about you don't read his articles, I dunno, about Armanti Edwards.

I'm an App fan and alumni so I guess by pantherbob's definition that would make me an Edwards fan boi. So be it. In any case I'm certainly no pro football expert like you guys clearly are. All that said, is it possible Darren Gantt saw the stats below and allowed that to color his opinion?

How will Edwards do in the bigs. Who knows. I mean he might not even be able to catch a football right? We'll find out soon enough.

• Only player in NCAA Division I (FCS and FBS) history with 10,000 passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards in a career

• Only player in NCAA Division I (FCS and FBS) history with 9,000 passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards in a career

• Only player in NCAA Division I FCS history (second in Division I overall) with 8,000 passing yards and 4,000 rushing yards in a career

• Second in NCAA Division I FCS history with 14,753 yards of total offense (behind only Steve McNair’s 16,823 at Alcorn State, 1991-94)

• Second in NCAA Division I FCS history in rushing yards by a quarterback (4,361)

God help us if Edwards turns out to be as good as I think he will be.

More like God help us if he has a bad game/quiet season. People will be so quick to rip him just because they are tired of hearing about him. I think PantherBob is secretly rooting against Edwards so he can say "I told you so! We drafted him too high!".
