Darin Gantt and Armanti Edwards

I think Gantt went to App St.
yep. loyalty to app state runs deep anyway. edwards is probably the best thing that has ever come out of there so of course gantt is going to be a fan of him. to have edwards now as a member of the team he's supposed to be covering is probably one of the best perks he could have for his job.

he's human. he's a fan of a player that went to his school. who cares? not really something that matters unless you are just looking for something to be pissy about.

Or went to WCU and are tired of it! Ha. People like objectivity and things that matter. He is no longer the ASU QB. We all know he was. No need to mention it 3 times in a 200 word article. Kinda petty to cover the NFL and throw I-AA stuff at us as if we had forgotten. Where he went to school is too minor to be mentioning every 75 words. It is bush league. NFL writers should cover the NFL. Just glad Gantt didn't attend Edwards' high school.

In fairness, Darin is a nice guy and is at times the best Panther reporter we have. I went to Western and we quietly lost a Catamount. I am happy Edwards is here, and hope he is great. Better than Dexter Jackson, anyway.

Now I am going to take my meds.

kind of petty to make a big deal about someone using the name of the college three times in a short article.

Or went to WCU and are tired of it!

This hatred runs deeper than just being petty. He's upset because he's a Catamount. :D

(PS: no harm intended MHS, just some friendly ribbing from a Mountaineer)

First, he's not an NFL writer, he's a local sportswriter. So he only covers things pertinent to the area.

Second, identifying the school is properly stated in the context of the article. Should he say "Edwards, a 4 year starter at the college he attended"? No, his job is to properly identify what he's writing about. He refers to the Panthers 6 times in that article. Why? Is it overkill, or is that part of what the article is about?

When people have beef with someone they generally find any small flaw to nitpick and this just so happens to be a great example of that happening. Does he have a mancrush on Armanti? Sure. Do I think he's going overboard? No. The key here is that he's not the only one raving about him, otherwise there might actually be something to this.

Learn to argue points with facts. Find another NFL article in any paper in any town where a player's school is mentioned three times. You won't, unless it was written in cheerleader poster paint.

And don't judge others for recognizing that its annoying. And don't respond to an opposing opinion by calling it petty and making erroneous assumptions about why the opinion is not as simplistic as yours-- THAT is petty.

Find an NFL article (local, if you want) not about Edwards and not written by Gantt that mentions the player's college three times in 5 paragraphs. Find an article Gantt wrote about Hoover that mentions WCU as his school 3 times. Or Wake with K. Moore or Hudson and NC State. Remember folks, the thread is about a sportswriter's perceived homerism, and all I did was offer concrete proof from his last article. All some of you have done is say I am jealous or petty-not the topic, not accurate. When you can't argue with facts, a simple mind tends to take to personal jabs and insults. It is petty to think that your opinion about people you don't know is accurate. I don't really care about where I went to college anymore and I sure has hell don't care where Darin or Armanti went. Interested in black and blue not black and yellow.

You need only to mention it once, if at all. How is identifying the school for the third time "properly stated?" He was signing with the Panthers. There was no need to mention the fact that he went to ASU twice (unless you went to ASU and have trouble retaining what you read--just kidding), Try this: he was a 4 year starter "at QB" would have been more significant than where he went for the third time. If you must, just say, "in college" since you just metioned it 2 sentences earlier and 5 sentences before that.

    • Agreed. A healthy bit from column A (stats) and column B (film) paints the most accurate picture, which is currently that Bryce is not performing up to the standard a 1st round QB (let alone drafted #1 overall) is expected to (statistically). When we dig into the film to see why, we see that while he's having his struggles (not stepping up in the pocket, bailing out early, hesitating on some throws, making occasional bad reads, etc) the team that surrounded him last season was simply awful. Bottom 5 defense, bottom 5 OL, bottom 5 weapons... but somehow one player has to overcome ALL of that in their rookie season? Yeesh... Taking this season into consideration, he started where he left off last season and was rightfully benched. Since starting again, the team has gotten on its first winning streak in a few years and he's made good plays to keep them in the game. Is he lighting it up? Nah... but he is beginning to show the reason so many draftniks had him as QB1a for his class. Re: what the team does next season... who friggin knows anymore at this point T_T. Resign Dalton? Sign Jones? Draft somebody in the mid-to-late rounds? Go with another UFA? Maybe grab an FA that can compete with Bryce for the starting position and draft a rookie to sit and develop? Might be best of both worlds for the team, but ugh... not a fun position to still be in with question marks throughout the position group.
    • Yeah, this is basically the same as asking, "What if Bryce Young suddenly had Patrick Mahomes brain, how would he do?" It isn't happening. This ship is beyond sailed. Send him somewhere else, let us move on and him move on.
    • Dalton is too close to starting right now. If it hadn't been for a car accident, he still would be. Switching Dalton for Jones does nothing except reduce the backup's age by a decade. One is in his NFL prime, the other is almost in his NFL grave. Not a horrible move if you're trying to improve the team. We've got to get better as a team and a lateral move like that would improve the team. The problem isn't that he's close to starting. The problem is we have a GM that signed off on BY and didn't bring in any serious QB competition for camp, a HC that said yeah, he's my guy until BY poo the bed so bad he couldn't start him, and an offense that's limited because BY can't make all the throws a normal NFL QB can.  The problem isn't that Jones could be an improvement as a backup QB. The problem is he could be better than our "franchise" QB.
