2 Breakout Players for 2010

My prediction is Stewart and Edwards. Jonathan Stewart showed exactly why he was drafted in the 1st round a few years back by destroying Minnesota's defense and making the Giants' defense look like a bunch of high school kids pretending to be real athletes. Along with the fact that he's entering his 3rd season, he is more than primed for a great season.

I wanted to say Dwayne Jarrett, but something tells me that it's going to be really hard for Fox and Davidson to keep the ball out of Edwards' hands. Armantti Edwards clearly hasn't proven himself against NFL caliber players, but players with his agility and love for the game usually make a name for themselves in the NFL. Yes, he has a chance to be a bust, but considering the mold or evolution of the game, if you will, he has a better upside of becoming a playmaker like Joshua Cribbs or DeSean Jackson.

And as a side note... as much as I hate to say it, Matt Moore won't be the starter for the Panthers after the Pre-season. Unless Moore can play at a skill level exactly how he did at the end of last season, I don't see it being that difficult to promote Clausen, should he prove to be the future, or at least shows a glimpse of it in camp and the Pre-season. Behind every job, there's always some politics, and in this case, out of the two: Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen, one of them will be getting paid more than the other... and unless Moore signs something between now and opening day, you can guess who'll have the bigger paycheck. (Just sayin')

My guess would be to keep an eye out for Hardy. Having seen the film on that kid makes me think that his motor could really contribute on the line

The title of this thread should be to pick the 10 players who will need to have a breakout season, at least for them, in order for us to get to the playoffs. It is easy to pick guys, just hard to narrow ir down to 2, even if you get 2 on offense and defense.

Most important?

Moore better have a breakout season. If we have to rely on Clausen to win games as a rookie, he better be everything people say and more, or we are in a world of hurt. Moore will definitely start and Clausen will only see the field in mop up duty unless Moore struggles. By the time we would make a change, we will have a losing record and will be pinning our hopes on a guy with no experience. We definitely want Moore to come out firing on all cylinders.

WHo else??

Believe it or not, Steve Smith. After a mediocre season by his standards and breaking his arm twice, He has to show he is still the dominant player he has been when Jake was in his prime. Now he will have to get things together pretty quickly with Moore if he is going to have the season we expect.

I figure between Edwards, Jarrett, Goodson, LaFell, Gettis, Moore, and Wright (whoever survives training camp and roster cuts), we have to find 2 guys each game to really contribute and catch the ball. Not to mention Williams and Stewart are pretty good catching as well.

On defense the 2 guys who will have to anchor the line are Johnson and Louis. At linebacker it will be Conner and in the secondary, most people will say Martin but I say Marshall and Gamble. There were thrown 166 times and allowed 111 of them to be caught which is almost 70%. If we ever expect to play man coverage, we need guys who contest the ball more aggressively like Munnerlyn does, instead of letting them catch the ball and being content just making the tackle.
