Searching for a point guard with what we have

Recommended Posts

This is based on the signing of Dominic McGuire (This is also posted in the Dominic McGuire thread but I wanted to give the fans more oppurtunity to tell everyone what they want to see or what they think)

Has anyone thought maybe he is not here to stay? I was thinking he may be packaged and shipped to Indiana for T.J. Ford, or to Toronto for Jose Calderon, or to Los Angeles for Baron Davis or maybe even to Washington for Gilbert Arenas.

Chad Ford: Teams w/ $$$ are going to play the trade market: Al Jefferson, Tyson Chandler, Emeka Okafor, Rip Hamilton, T.J. Ford, Turkoglu anyone? :Twitter

Chad Ford: Other players under contract for sale to teams with $$$: Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Jose Calderon, Elton Brand, Marcin Gortat :Twitter

Buying out the final year of point guard T.J. Ford's contract isn't an option at the moment. The Pacers will continue to try to trade him. :Indianapolis Star

Maybe....

Nazr Mohammed and Dominic McGuire for T.J. Ford

or...

Boris Diaw for Jose Calderon

or...

Tyson Chandler and Dominic McGuire for Baron Davis

or...

Tyson Chandler and Boris Diaw for Gilbert Arenas

With the re-signing of TNT and the signing of Dominic McGuire we have a lot more options to explore. His contract is trade friendly and maybe he won't be in Charlotte for long.

McGuire won't be traded but I think you are onto something with the other players.

I still think TJ Ford is the most likely guy to be traded to Charlotte. Just think, a few years ago the Bobs offered Gerald Wallace for TJ Ford, but Indiana turned the trade DOWN!

Thank God, imagine Danny Granger and Gerald Wallace on the same team.

They would really need to be on a team with a real bruiser Center, but that would be a really good group of forwards.

Regardless, the Bobs have tried on multiple occasions to acquire Ford. I think they will keep trying.

You keep spewing crap out of you mouth I see... You might want to pick that up.

Do you not understand that you cannot make it throught the season with 1 point guard on the roster?

The biggest need is getting another one not a Center/PF which we have 6 of.

We are going to let Nazr Mohammed bring the ball up the court.

May be better than D.J. (Just Kidding) I hope D.J. turns out to be a suprise but I am not gonna be mad if he doesn't because I don't see it happening unless we play the New Orleans Hornets every not.

There was a game during the Ham Biscuit period in which we only had like 1 or 2 active guards for the game. Ham Biscuit played three centers at the same time- Oke, Hollins, and Nazr.

The Bobs almost won that game.

Ah yes, here is that game:

The Bobs didn't have a single active point guard for that game.

What would happen, and what kinda of mismatches could we create if we had Boris Diaw play the point forward. our lineup would look like this...

PG - Boris Diaw (DJ Augustine, Sharon Collins)

SG - Stephen Jackson (Gerald Henderson)

SF - Gerald Wallace (Derek Brown, McGuire)

PF - Tyrus Thomas

C - Tyson Chandler (Theo Ratliff, Nazr Muhammad, Diop)

We could use the host of Centers to back up Tyrus. This would utilize Diaw's strengths believe it or not, and be a cost effective way of resolving our PG position. Doubt this happens, but would be a cool lineup to try. Also, im dreaming a little so cut me some slack.

    • I don't see the Wallace speed ratings on the field. Not once have my eyes been drawn to him from any suddenness or explosiveness. Kind of like looking for a flash out of Bryce Young last year. I am aware that he is a rookie and his recognition and processing will be slower but if you don't close ground once you have finished recognizing and processing I worry about it. Now this, I think, disregards the new offensive staff's experience with WRs and their influence on who gets added. It isn't the old staff people and they are the offensive deciders, Morgan shouldn't be exerting his will over people whose focus has always been offensive football, and I don't think he will try to do that.  We'll see, but the two we added this year don't look like busts.
    • Not comparing the players just the use of analytics which has been and remains a key part of the structure of our approach in the draft since David Tepper became owner. All I'm saying is going forward we just don't know if this team will stop drafting Jonathan Mingo type prospects because the scouts are largely the same and the approach largely remains the same. Morgan has said he seeks players with a certain mentality (I refuse to type the phrase because this team has gotten taken to the woodshed too many times this season so it falls on deaf ears now) that's really the only key difference I can see as of right now. Next years draft will tell us what we need to know.
