Gettis gears up for a big rookie season

same here. I see him making the team then being traded around the trade deadline for a draft pick. probably like a 6th. so then it would look something like this...

Smith/LaFell/Edwards/Moore/Gettis/Wright

In your scenario, we'd have to carry 7 wrs through the first 5 regular season games. I doubt that happens.

Gettis is a quality person and is very dedicated to making this team. I had the opportunity to chat with him at OTAs. I was impressed. He won't stay on the PS long if that is where he goes, IMO. As a KR in college, he did little, but I think he needs STs to earn a spot. It is possible that we keep 6 wrs considering our FB situation may lead us to use more 3-4 WR sets, and we are keeping Wright,-- that would not bode well for Goodson. I think Jarrett will need to play this season until LaFell kicks him aside. By the way, if you get a chance to talk to the players, make sure you say something to Lafell. He is funny as hell.

I think he has too much potential to be cut. He's 6-3/6-4 and runs a 4.3 something 40. He just needs to ripen. Plus we need another WR besides Smith with some jets, though we have Edwards, having another burner won't hurt.

I don't think you have to worry about him getting snatched off the practice squad because he won't be on the practice squad. With the WRs that the Panthers have...David Gettis can be your #2 WR by you bye week. We're pretty familiar with Gettis and his talents and you guys are going to like this guy. He is a steal and the only reason his name was not higher on the draft boards is because he played at Baylor and their QB looked to run before pass. Mark my words...you guys got a steal!

Unless you are an LSU fan, who could name any of these great quarterbacks throwing the ball to LaFell???? Sure he dropped passes more than he should but that was most noticeable his senior year when he had no one who could throw a decent ball. At the end of his junior year there were very few receivers in college who were rated higher than he was.

I really see Gettis making the team as a return man not primary receiver at this point. He will only get better but won't displace LaFell because he can't block nearly as well.

I agree Lafell had some very poor quarterback play while at LSU. Guys like Jarret "Pick 6" Lee, and Jordan Jefferson don't do anyone favors. But, I talked to a colleague (sp) of Lafell's at LSU this past year..and he said the reason Lafell dropped a few balls was due to the size of his hands...being a little small. Don't get me wrong, I think he'll benefit from professional quarterback play and the drops will be far and few between, but it is an area to watch for and im sure the panthers staff is working with him (and all the receivers) on catching the ball hands out. fwiw.

Edwards got small hands too. I think the size of your hand only really matters if ur a qb or play in the nba.

I saw his drops, I don't think they were cause his hand size, he just needs to work on his catching, he will be fine.

Good thread revive, lol. Gettis is certainly looking like a pro-level receiver in his first year. Lafell isn't looking too shabby either. Hopefully neither become Keary Colbert.
